“Back again and don't want to leave!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

Let's talk consistency, quality and hospitality.....this is the Grand Hyatt HK. Love this place. It's our second visit since April, and already planning to return. We have been here for four nights with only two left :( Actually, I don't want to say too many good things about the property or everyone will want to come! Seriously, the view is stupendous; you're not situated with all the other hotels; you can easily walk to the financial and shopping center within an easy 15 minutes via the all-weather shopping links. It took only 10 minutes to be in front of the Conrad/Marriott which are lovely hotels as well, but in the center of traffic. Being situated next to the convention center and the harbor/harbor ferry is very convenient. The drive from the airport was only 40 minutes with evening traffic. The property as exceptional restaurants with a choice for everyone. My personal favorite is The Grill. By the way, sleep has been great with hardly any jet lag from California. For those who like a special experience, the Club floors are first class and go beyond expectations. Today I visited The Grill at lunchtime to take a quick look at the fare, and the staff was so nice! A staff member described all of the options in the grill area, and even asked the chef if he had certain items stocked in the pantry which I inquired about. Very personal and professional at the same time. Can't wait for our dinner their tomorrow night.

Room Tip: Ask for the harbour view, but the other side is just fine because you can open the windows and it...

After visting Singapore and Kuala Lumpur on a business 'whirlwind' tour, I arrived at this hotel genuinely exhausted (three countries in five days and 18 hours in air at that point). The welcome was speedy and efficient. I had to go straight out after arrival for more meetings, until the small hours. When Saturday came though, I placed the 'do not disturb' sign on the door and slept for nearly 16 hours. The room was a Victoria Harbour view on the 14th floor. Nothing broke that sleep and I am grateful for that.

The room was large, with a big working desk, clean and spacious bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle. Complimentary water (four bottles each day) and newspapers were delivered every morning.

Throughout the stay the staff were excellent, welcoming and very professional. It was my first visit to Hong Kong and this helped put me at ease.

I was supposed to go out on the Sunday sightseeing but as I walked into the foyer, I became aware of the Sunday Brunch buffet. A bit pricy at about £65 I hesitated, but decided to forgo the planned boat trip and booked in. I was whisked to a window seat looking out over the harbour / hotel front and a glass of champagne was put before me. Then I was shown the unbelievable range of food at the several stations around the lounge area. From Indian to Chinese there was also a full 'English' turkey and/or beef roast available. Hot starters, cold starters, seafood, meat and vegetarian 'mains', free flow Moet Champagne, wine, beer, soft drinks, tea coffee and then....the dessert buffet points. I didn't count, but there must have been over 50 different core meals/desserts on offer from all around the world.

I tried a little of each of most of the dishes over the course of three blissful hours and needless to say, I drank way too much champagne. Each time I stood up to try something more my dirty plate and cutlery was whisked away and replaced and the glass topped up.

Frankly, this was service beyond my normal experience and if like me, you only get to visit here just once in a lifetime, I recommend this hotel and buffet to you without hesitation.

On leaving day I had a late flight (nearly midnight) but the hotel kindly looked after my bags all day free of charge while I went off to Lamma Island and a long (hugely enjoyable) hike to atone for my buffet excesses.

Well done to all the team, I do hope I am able to revisit at some point in the future, but if not, thank you all for your faultless hospitality.

Room Tip: We had a grand harbour twin, 14th floor, overlooking the harbour. Great view at sunrise / nightfall...

I love coming here for many years, best Hyatt from all the Hyatts I go. I travel all the world but nothing compares. The Grand Club is the best in all Hyatts - the service, the breakfast and cocktail hour - most importantly the staff. Winnie, Rike, Jake and Angela - the dream team!

It's rare when a hotel does everything right, so it's a pleasure to report when it does. The Grand Hyatt Hong Kong provided such an experience.

From check in to check out, the staff were unfailingly kind and helpful, often going out of their way to anticipate a question or possible need I might have. They are exceptionally well trained to greet you kindly, hold elevator doors, let you go to your floor before they go to theirs, and so on. The concierge drew maps for me when I wanted to walk to certain places nearby, and the restaurant wait staff were always prompt and attentive.

As others have mentioned, the breakfast buffet is really something to behold. The fruits are juicy and fresh--an assortment of kiwis, pineapple, grapefruit, oranges, starfruit, and other items. Just the week before I had been at a buffet in Istanbul where the kiwis were rock hard. By contrast, the perfectly peeled kiwis at the Grand Hyatt HK were bursting with juiciness. There is also a station where they make "Western" specialties like eggs, pancakes, and waffles, and an Asian station where they seemed to have dim sum, miso soup, and many other items. A variety of fresh-squeezed juices--watermelon, honeydew, pineapple, apple, orange, mixed fruits, etc--were available, as were fresh breads, muffins, croissants, pastries, cereals, yogurts, salads, and breakfast meats. Everything is delicious.

Many properties claim to be five stars, but belie this claim by offering a dumpy workout area with minimal equipment. The Grand Hyatt gym, on the other hand, is completely suitable for a five-star property. It has a full complement of exercise bikes, steppers, and treadmills for aerobic workouts, plus dumbbells and about a dozen weight machines for toning or building every muscle in the body. It was especially gratifying to see a Smith machine (for bench press and squats) and a multi-function cable crossover machine. Other equipment that other hotel gyms often overlook--exercise balls, bosus, yoga mats, etc--were a welcome sight.

As for some of the other "small touches" that other hotels forgo, one need not leave their room. Next to the bed are a series of knobs that turn on every combination of lights in the room. Even when it's pitch black or you are bleary eyed, you can turn on lights easily. It's also simple to turn off all the lights or any combination thereof--you don't have to be a puzzlemaster.

Another welcome amenity is the multiple adapters/converters in the room, into which you can plug your appliances. There's no need to call down to reception, unless you happen to need a third adapter. And speaking of reception, they almost always pick up on the first or second ring when you call them.

I could only think of two areas in which the hotel could improve, but they don't detract from the five-star rating: 1. There can be a wait for elevators at busy times, and 2. For some reason, they don't make you sign for breakfast when you sit down or are still eating your meal. They typically chase you down as you are leaving the dining room, sometimes asking you for the name/room number of your table companion if they left before the staff was able to catch them. Surely this process can be done more efficiently.

Overall, though, a great property!

Room Tip: The higher the better. Get a harbor view.

I spent over 50 nights at the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong in 2012. Great place, good service, good restaurants, leisure facilities very good (also for smaller kids, with an enormous playground on the pool level, yet away from the pool). Pool is enormous and truly a world away from the busy town... Spa is lovely and treatments good, prices in line with the location. Some say the Hyatt is a bit out of the way, I agree that other 5star locations are better, but this has marginal impact at most. Rooms have a good size, furniture is not the newest but fine. Good desk, if you are there to work and finally some great views into Central and TST.

This is a grand hotel, the staff are friendly but well trained, the rooms lovely and comfortable, there technology works (such as the in room WIFI which was free) and you feel able to relax and get on with what you need to do. The Ferry is five minutes away (so the trip between the Island and Kowloon area is very easy and short) and there is Both good shopping and interesting things to see (such as a great night market) close by. The food is excellent and great for a traveller on their own as they do a fantastic breakfast and evening buffet with an expansive choice. The pool is also great.

Room Tip: If you can always ask for one with a view of the harbor which is such fantastic entertainment in it...
