“Hong Kong Revisited”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

My partner and I met in Hong Kong 25 years ago. We decided to return to celebrate out anniversary. Any other time we have visited we have stopped on Kowloon side, so for change we stayed on the island.

We treated ourself to a harbour view at the Excelsior. As everyone says its is well situated for the MTR. I would agree with a number of other comments the room is looking a little tired, but was very clean and the service good. We only ate once in the hotel, we have the late evening buffet on a Friday, which was quite nice, and good value.

One night we even relived our youth down Wanchi, Jo Bananas, Makkitis etc we were awaken by the mid day gun!

Room Tip: Obviously Hong Kong is noisy the higher the better

Stayed for 4 nights March 2013. First impression of the Hotel dissapointing, very tired and in need of refurbishment. However the hotel staff in reception, concierge, and restaurant were fantastic, very polite and helpful, the concierge extremely helpful and informative.
We booked a deluxe harbour view room, the view was rather industrial, however beyond that the the skyline was very pretty. The room was very tired, but clean and functional.
Breakfast was very good offering the usual selection for all nationalities; the staff very accomodating and helpful.
We ate in Dickens bar the food was delicious, good portion sizes and good value for money, the staff very welcoming and efficient.
The location of the hotel was perfect for getting about, very near the MTR and brilliant for shopping. Our stay was brief but we managed to do so much and see a lot of Hong Kong.
Places to see - Peak, Stanley and the market, the ladies market at Kowloon, and the starlight ferry at night is very beautiful. The avenue of stars nice walk, but not very interesting as we didn't know many of them.
All in all a very enjoyable holiday.

This is a well located hotel, close to the shops and bars of vibrant Causeway Bay. The rooms are small, but that's typical for HK. The bathroom is tiny! Service is first class on reception. There's also a top floor cocktail bar, which is really nice, has amazing views and offers reasonable value for money too. There is a small spa, with sauna, steam and gym, but no pool, sadly. The only drawback to the hotel is the lack of free wifi and the exorbitant charges for it. Otherwise, top marks for a really nice hotel with top class comfort and service.

It's a bit dated but overall very clean & well maintained. Room is big for HK downtown standard. And very comfortable beds!!! The location is hard to beat if you are a shopaholic. MTR is 3mins away & lots of taxi available. I got it at corporate rate so it's really good value for money.

Stayed at the Excelsior for 6 nights in February 2013. The hotel is ideally located a few hundred metres from Causeway Bay MTR and is also within walking distance (20 mins) of the Wan Chai bars, etc.

The rooms are fairly generic in nature but comfortable and unlike some other hotel chains, you can actually use the min-bar to keep some of your own stuff cool.

Dickens bar in the basement is a great place to kick off an evening and the food is reasonably priced.

Couple of downsides for me:

breakfast is pricey - best part of 200 HKD (20-odd quid). An alternative is Starbucks which is opposite the side entrance to the hotel. This is much better value and one I used most days.

The WiFi is also quite expensive and again, I wasn't tempted.

Overall though, I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely return.

Room Tip: Get a harbour view if you can.

We stayed four nights in February. It was our first trip to HK and the beginning of a longer trip throughout various places in Asia; as such we wanted a reasonably priced, yet comfortable, option for HK. The Excelsior presented good value, and Causeway Bay is convenient for various transport links to central, Wan Chai ferry. It's a big hotel and the lobby feels crowded. The rooms are somewhat dated but perfectly clean. We struggled with jet lag the first couple of nights and the staff were very helpful, providing a cot and then helping us to change room to a twin without too much fuss. The breakfast buffet was good - we had no complaints - and the bar on the top floor was nice way to begin the evening; the cocktails and wine were nice, though we didn't eat there. The gym was perfectly fine - spacious.

The only complaint we had was noise from the loading area when we had a room on the side of the hotel near the mall - a constant beeping from reversing laundry and other delivery trucks. Wasn't a major issue and when we provided feedback we got a message from the GM that it would be looking in to. Overall a decent hotel, good team and good value (especially for HK!).
