“it is a must”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012 via mobile

Ive spent two nights in this hotel for my business trip to Hong Kong. Location is perfect with a walking distance from the business district and the shopping stores, hence It doesn't matter wether you are there on business or pleasure, it is the place to be in. Excellent service is provided by all staff. The room is large and spacious. It provides study desk, separated toilet from the bathtub and the shower area, Hermes toiletries, nespresso machine, and a steamer to iron your cloth with instead of the ordinary iron! The gym was good in size with plenty of technogym machines. Last but not least the food quality in the Cafe causette is very good.

We recently returned to the Mandarin HK and from the minute you arrive at the front door you are made to feel like you have come home.
Everything about the hotel just oozes charm and character. In the sixteen years I have been visiting it has been refurbished and modernised more than once but has lost none of its style and grace. Nothing is ever too much trouble regardless of whether it's restaurant reservations for the concierge or another pillow from housekeeping.
Now it is time to count the days until my next visit to HK and the MO.

We've travelled extensively across Asia, Australia and to a less extent Europe and this is possibly the best 5 star hotel ever. From the moment you're greeted at the entrance to the surprises you find within your room (such as "jet lag calming oil") you would not be disappointed. Yes it is expensive and possibly can't be justified as part of a big trip - BUT if you're in HK for only a few days and/or have a special occasion to celebrate then it's worth the splurge. The rooms have been renovated yet retain a uniquely Chinese feel, the gym is good and the location is perfect - only a few mins walk to the star ferry and central station. Overall loved it and would hope to be back again.

This has always been one of the grand hotels of Hong Kong, and apart from a brief period prior to its undergoing renovations when it was looking a little worn, it was a safe bet as a five star, meets-all-expectations inn.

The service is outstanding - and I always find it interesting to contrast top HK service with its equivalent in Japan. That in the former colony always comes off a little less subservient (and face it, subservience is a desired trait in hotel staff most of the time) than Tokyo's, and a little slicker with a tad of cockiness at times, but also more street smart and results-oriented. Trying is not the objective - delivering is. That can be a good thing - drinks details are memorized, your room preferences and idiosyncrasies are catered to and not questioned.

The room was "well appointed" (I'm not even sure what that means nowadays) and tastefully and well-designed. The bathroom was a little convoluted with the new "open" look a little impractical when it came to things like shaving, and good have done with a little more thought. The lighting system was not designed to be learnt in a day, and as such led to a few minutes of confusion when I wanted some immediate shuteye.

Laundry service is impeccable, as is the housekeeping staff. No task is beyond them and they are mindful of time constraints (in HK, time is a luxury).

The restaurants and M bar are great but a little busy at times as this great location means it is a power breakfast/cocktails scene 24/7. Room service always has some favorite MO dishes from around the region. Try the chicken rice if you're not going to stop in Singapore but have a hankering for that hard to perfect dish (the original chef was fired from the S'pore location when it changed hands years ago). The gym and spa are great - nice touches when you sometimes need a place to change and relax after checking out of your room and after a long day prior to an overnight flight.

They've done a great job to retain their position in an increasingly crowded market.

Room Tip: Away from the elevators tends to be quieter although insulation is very good.

This hotel is now a bit older, a bit smaller and a bit less glitzy than competitors and all the better for it. It is very well located and service levels are very high with real service where the aim is to make your stay better, not just to impress you. The staff here will take your problem and solve it for you. The choice of dining and eating within the hotel is excellent.

My wife and I decided to see Hong Kong so we booked the Mandarin Oriental. After much thought, we decided to purchase the Mandarins airport service, knowing our trip from Baltimore would be strenuous. We arrived at 10:30pm Friday evening into HK. As we were departing the plane, Mandarin Oriental personnel picked us up with a airport cart and escorted us all the way through customs, then unto the waiting Mercedes. Upon arrival at the Mandarin, they took us straight to our suite, which was lushly supplied with complementary wine, tea, fruit and other items, and checked us in. The fruit was replenished daily and the coffees, (3 kinds), were lavishly supplied daily. The room also has a tea pot, and they supply caked red tea, (expensive and lush), for your caffeine enjoyment. Room service was extraordinary, and tastefully done. The Concierges, breakfast buffet staff, and everyone in the resort, are top notch professionals. The Mandarin employees are such genuine people with smiles so warm and welcoming. From the doorman to the spa personnel, everyone, made us feel very important and well looked after. I have been to the Four Seasons, and am a regular customer of the Ritz Carlton, and must say that the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong out performed these places. They made our stay an extraordinary beautiful experience.

Room Tip: 23rd foor suite

Stayed in this hotel in October of 2011. Very nice hotel. Room set up was a tad strange, but service was impeccable. Way above board on service. Not sure as to value as someone else was picking up tab for room. Restaurant was good, as well.
