“Traders HK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2014

Safe, Clean, a bit dated, great staff. The walls are very thin and you can hear eveything outside your room. If there are unruley guests you will be able to hear them. The carpet needs upgrading, and the make up service is a bit slow.

Room Tip: update the carpets

Pros:
Located in neighbourhood, can experience local people lifestyle and away from touristy crowds. Many good local restaurants and many supermarket and 24 hrs convenience stores around hotel. Easy to take local transport eg trams, buses and taxis.
Cons: No MTR nearby but not a big problem because compensated by easy access to local transport.

This hotel has many virtues.
The rooms show great ingenuity nothing was missing and this created a very nice room in a smallish area. THe shower was magnificent.
The staff are uniformly very nice, informative and patient.
The restaurant serves a good buffet or an a la carte menu to suit westerners or locals.
THe problem is that it is situated in a working class suburb and you need to use taxis or trams to get out to see the sights, as there is nothing to see when you walk the streets locally.
Still, as a business or short stay hotel in Hong Kong, it cannot really be faulted.

Room Tip: You use the in-house film remote for the TV - not the seemingly obvious tv/dvd remote to switch it o...

We upgraded to a club room on arrival and it was worth it for the view and lounge access. The staff were great and always helpful. Getting cabs was no problems and someone always came out to help. We did have a problem with our room and the management worked hard to solve it by moving us. We were very pleased with their response. It's not a five star hotel, but it's a great cheaper option and the rooms are a pretty good size. We were able to get connecting rooms as well which was very good with our young kids.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Club Room

Good hotel with very helpful staff. Location is fine as there is a shuttle bus service to Central and it's nice to stay in a more authentic Chinese area. It would have been 5 stars but I found the room design a bit poor with the shower/washbasin layout. If you want an early shower it will disturb your partner if they're still in bed.

Don't let the Shangri la management advertisement fools you, this is a 2-3-star hotel at best. I was looking for a Shangri la management hotel and I was disappointed for the 5 nights stay.
Pros:
location - it is located in a semi-quiet neighborhood (remember this is hong kong) so it is not extremely noisy. You can still hear the traffic starts early in the morning like 5:30 a.m.
- The sheets and towels are just about the pluses in the room, shower is good.
- rooms are insulated pretty good so you don't hear your neighbors, even the loud mainland Chinese next door.
- free shuttle to the Airport Express in Central District where you can connect with MTR and go anywhere.
- the price is right.
- the room is spacious for a Hong Kong standard.
Cons:
- furniture is dated and really need a good cleaning. Stains and hairs stuck to the fabric. Carpets in the hallway look like it hasn't been cleaned since it was installed.
- housekeeping doesn't replenish toiletry items daily.
- I reported the TV was out of order and it took them one and half day to get it fixed.
- the quality of the TV is poor, blurry images, definitely is not a HD TV.
- hotel restaurant food is poor to non-edible. I ordered a waffle and tasted like cardboard. I just don't understand how can they have a poor restaurant in Hong Kong? Hong Kong is supposed to be a foodie town.
- Hotel Staff - some are helpful and some are just "doing their job", they are not there to please, that's for sure. Understanding and ability to speak English are limited. This is surprising because Hong Kong was an English colony.
- Majority of the clientele is mainland Chinese, they are loud and rude and don't observe normal social courtesy.

Room Tip: get a higher floor room so you can see the harbor
