“Best value for money, would stay here again!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013 via mobile

I happened to be in HK two weeks before I was supposed to check in to Homy Inn & I thought I would do an ocular inspection so I could make booking changes in case I didn't like it. First, the building was along Hart Road near Chatham South side. No visible signage downstairs but found it through tips online. I was a bit hesitant because the bldg where it was is kind of old with tiny elevators. Found Homy Inn on the 6th floor. I asked to see a room and was surprised to see how small it is. I almost wanted to cancel my booking BUT the receptionist Andy was very helpful and cheery. Plus he pointed out that even if the room is small, amenities are good. So really, Andy and the fact that they have free WiFi for ALL rooms won me over. When I checked in two weeks later, a different receptionist, Catherine, helped us. She was just as helpful and another guy, Ken, walked us to our rooms and helped us with our luggage. We were given a room in a different bldg, just a few steps away which is along Chatham Road South, on the 5th floor. CONS: Small room, even tinier bathroom (you had to take a shower between the toilet and the sink so you get everything in the bathroom wet), water from the bathroom sometimes seeped into the room. PROS: Location: it is near good pubs, restos, shops, mtr, bus stops, promenade; the staff are so helpful and friendly especially Ken who brought us two extra pillows, free wifi in all rooms, good set of toiletries, tea and coffee, free water, towels changed daily, slippers, good quality linen, bed, pillows; good airconditioning, safety vault, safe and secure building and rooms. Also, I have to say, the cleaning lady assigned to our rooms was amazing. Every time we came back to our room, it was spotless and she even took the time to fold our clothes, rearrange our beauty stuff nicely (creams, toners, lotions, which we always left in disarray because we were in a hurry all the time). Homy Inn is really a good value for your money. I would consider staying here again. :)

Front desk staff (Andy) was extremely helpful and welcoming. Loved the amenities in the room (slippers, fluffy towels, electric kettle, plug adaptors provided). Compact space (as is typical in Hong Kong for this price bracket) was used extremely well. Location was great for us - only one block from one of the Metro exits. Lots of bars and eateries around. Two elevators served the 6th floor. Not a busy building so no long waits for the elevator. Quiet building. Air conditioner worked well. Bathroom was tiny (toilet, sink and shower all in one space) - but shower worked extremely well. Very clean - got new towels every day. Would stay there again.

It's well located, in a quiet building, lot of small shops, bar and restaurant within 30s walk.

The room is small 6m2 but this is normal for this price and this kind of hotel

However, the staff is really friendly, ready to assist, rooms are clean and in a way modern.

You have an electronic key and a safe box, pretty good. Trust me, I visited some other guest house where you would probably not let your passport in.

A good choice for this kind of accommodation.

Room Tip: at the seven floor as the reception is on the six floor, less noisy

PROS
** location - it's really just a few steps away from the east tst mtr station (there are three entrances/exits and the nearest one is at the chatham road south, beside the 7-11 store). there's also a bus stop near this inn and there are plenty of cabs to hail just in case you need one...

eateries and restaurants also surround this inn and the nearest one is the "tai fung lau restaurant". it's just in front of the building...

it's also near tourist attractions like avenue of the stars, symphony of lights, the clock tower, hong kong space museum, kowloon park, harbour city mall, the k11 mall, and the ferry terminal to macau. i'll also include here charlie brown cafe for it's also just a few walks away... :)

** receptionists - they are extremely gracious, friendly, and accommodating. abby, the lady recep assigned in the morning, waited for us outside of the building when we arrived on the morning of march 19th and she helped us with our luggages. she also made sure that we were comfortably settled already in our rooms before she left and go back to man the reception area...

the other one was this guy recep (wearing glasses) assigned in the evening. he was so nice too. he never failed to greet us and give us a smile or a quick chat. i remember one night when i approached him to ask for the wi-fi password and he quickly said, "oh, hi! how may i help you?" with this big, sincere smile on his face. so nice of him... :)

and the last girl recep that i have to mention, the one assigned on the night of march 22nd, around 7:3o in the evening (we only met her once). she was nice too, asking us if we needed help on how to go to the airport. when we told her that we would be taking a cab, she quickly said, "alright. they know how to go there. but just in case, you can always call us for assistance." thumbs up for her... ^^

** amenities / services - yes, the rooms are extremely small but everything you need is in it: toothbrush, toothpaste, bath towel, bath gel, shampoo, tissue, bedroom slippers, coffee mugs (with complimentary coffee and tea), electric kettle, hair dryer, night lamp, tv, and a safety box. the bed is also comfortable enough to give you a good night sleep. the aircon is also good enough and very much working to be adjusted according to your preference. the wi-fi is fast too (as opposed to some of the reviews here)...

the building is, i may say, safe too. there are working fire exit signs and fire detectors and water sprinklers... :)

CONS

** airport pick-up driver - we booked an airport pick-up to avoid the hassle of getting lost in finding this inn and i don't think we got our money's worth (hk$600). the driver was really annoying. he was walking really fast, like, 10 to 15 meters ahead of us, and didn't even bother to look back to check if we were still behind him. he also didn't even offer to help us with our luggages. he also asked us to put on our seat belts in a very rude way and then drove really fast. he was really an unpleasant first impression of homy inn and of hong kong...

** bathroom - it's too small, really. i had experiences of accidentally banging my elbow on the sliding door while taking a bath... :(

** no complimentary drinking water and the tv channels are very limited... :(

** there is only power socket per room which is kind of a hassle especially when you need to charge your gadgets like laptop, cameras, and phones all at the same time... :(

but, overall, this inn is highly recommended to all those who will visit hong kong... :)

This is certainly a good option when in Hong Kong if you simply need a base to leave your things during the day and crash at night. It's a no-frills option that is good value given the prices for other options in the city

I thought access to the floor and room was very convenient and secure with the RFID room keys. The hotel area was quiet and location is terrific - near the harbour, MTR and Star Ferry - you can get anywhere quickly.

I stayed six nights and the room was generally clean throughout. The only complaint is that my sheets weren't replaced after the first two nights. I had to call the front desk after they weren't replaced following the second night (i.e. they were planning on leaving the same sheets in the room for 3+ nights). Someone came over not long after and made the bed.

As many of the reviews have said, the rooms are appropriately HK-sized: quite small with just enough space for the bed and your stuff. There was no closet, and the shower head was directly above the sink and the toilet. All these things are to expected in HK hostels. However, the rooms were always cleaned and the supplies were also replenished. The sheets were sufficiently clean, as well.
The location is excellent. The bus station and the MTR station are both less than 5 minutes away. Restaurants, convenience stores and money changers are all very accessible.
Front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating. They even gave us guidebooks and maps and patiently gave us tips on the places we should go visit. Transacting with them was quick and stress-free. I would probably stay here again if we were to go back to HK.

I booked a room for 3 persons in Homy Inn Union Mansion branch. I paid a 50% deposit through Pay Pal as instructed by the staff. They responded fairly quickly to my inquiries and confirmed my booking immediately.

Riding the A21 bus from the airport, I easily saw the Union Mansion building as it is a short distance away from the No. 16 bus stop. Instructions given to me by Homy Inn were also clear. When I arrived there, one of the staff accompanied me to Windsor Mansion, a building closer to the bus stop and right along Chatham Road South (Union Mansion is in Hart Avenue). It turns out that some of the rooms are located in Windsor Mansion. I was informed that the receptionist in the Windsor Mansion branch is only available until 10 am in the morning. Beyond that, guests are advised to call the number in their business card for inquiries. When checking out, Windsor Mansion guests are asked to drop their key cards on a box located in the reception area. Nobody checks the room, no waiting time (!)

As for the room, it's clean except that the toilet bowl seems to have a faint mark from the previous user, and I saw a couple of strands of hair on the pillow. As expected, the room is small so much so that the bathroom does not even have a division between the toilet and the shower so when you take a bath, most of the bathroom gets wet as well. There's a safety deposit box in the room, using it is easy. A water dispenser is available in the reception area and coffee and tea-making amenities are available. There's lots of sockets (connected to 1 electrical outlet) to charge your gadgets, and TV is available but all shows are in Chinese language. You can leave your bags too if you have a late flight, just advice the staff beforehand.

As for the location, it's close to places of interest, an MTR station and bus stops without the maddenning crowd.

Overall, Homy Inn is right for the price.

Just a tip, if it's your first time to stay in hostels in Hong Kong, don't be surprised about the room size and the hard-to-find entrance to your accommodation. Apparently, that's just the way it is there. :-)
