OZONE is perched a top a massive tower of commercial floors and right at the top sits the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Then right at the top of that sits the highest bar in the world: OZONE at a towering 118 floors high. Getting to the top is a little bit of a maze if you arrive via the MTR as first you need to negotiate the mall on top of the MTR station, then through the commercial hub, then to the Ritz Carlton where you have to negotiate the staff and then FINALLY into the lift that goes directly to OZONE. Here you will immediately be pounced upon by the clearly greedy maitre de who is looking for high rollers to occupy the minimum spend tables. We highlighted we were only looking for a drink and were told to head out to the balcony where “its free to sit”. Great attitude…
We arrived quite early as we wanted to get seats with a view to watch the light show after the sun had gone down. I would advise an early visit as we managed to get two stools right at the windows overlooking all of Hong Kong and wow its something to behold:
Being the highest bar in the world in the Ritz Carlton in Hong Kong obviosuly means that this is haunt of people with some cash to burn and there was plenty of evidence of that around us with many middle aged and above men entertaining “ladies” who were clearly young enough to be their teenage daughters by flashing a bit of cash. It was amusing to watch tables attempting to out do each other by ordering the next more expensive champagne than the last order. However it did mean for normal folk like us that we were completely neglected by the staff.
Lets not forget that for our round of a pint of Ashai beer and a small cocktail (see the picture, thats small) we were still clearing £30 a round for two drinks. It’s expensive to say the least and the staff were poor and quite arrogant.
It’s absolutely worth the trip up to OZONE for a drink or two to see the sunset, the view and marvel and the dizzy heights with planes appear to only clear the sky above you by feet. However unless you have enough money to be treated like a human being by the staff be prepared for rubbish service and over priced everything. Make sure an use the toilet as well, thats quite something to behold!
