We'd read the reviews on tripadvisor, and three slightly hungover people (two tea-lovers and one sceptic) arrived at MingCha for an unforgettable experience with our enthusiastic host Vivian.
The outside of the building does not bring peace and tranquillity to mind, and we were slightly disturbed by the noise going on in the room above us. However, our host quickly sorted this irritation and invited us to taste a range of teas that really tickled our tastebuds, whilst talking to us about tea, tea-production, tea pairing with food, and a whole range of other subjects. Does tea grow on bushes or on trees - well go to MingCha and find out!
We loved talking to Vivian, and I think the reason why we enjoyed the morning so much was that we asked a lot of questions, laughed a lot, and enjoyed engaging with Vivian about her own experiences, whilst tasting and talking about the tea that she offered to us. (I loved the Phoenix Osmanthus Oolong - It really is something special). At the end of the session you get an opportunity to purchase some or all of the tea you tasted, but there's no obligation to buy anything if you don't want to.
We entered MingCha as 3 slightly weary people, and left feeling as though we'd had a wonderful experience. Our hangovers were cured and even the sceptic in our party said that he'd had a great time too. It was definitely one of the highlights of our few days in Hong Kong, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend MingCha and Vivian to anyone who has an interest in tea, and wants to learn more about it. It would be great if MingCha could be located in a more aesthetic / tranquil location, but Vivian has big plans, and I'm certain it won't be too long before that happens.
