There are plenty of places in the Mandarin Hotel or nearby for good food. One doesn't go to the Captain's Bar for food (although there are things you can order to soak up the alcohol a bit, beyond the various nibbles that are automatically provided). One goes for the atmosphere (filled after work on a business day) and drink (the various cocktails are very well made) and, later at night, music and perhaps a bit of dancing. I've never had a problem with the service. We often met friends after work or stopped by for a late nightcap when we lived in Hong Kong, and a visit there now is not complete without a stop (or two or three) during our stay.
