For those staying at the Peninsula, being able to go downstairs to find luxury end, brand-name shops is convenient. There is an impressive line-up of shops on the three floors, which flank the main lobby, occupying a basement level, ground and first floor.
However, one can't help but notice the aged appearance of much of the arcade area, especially the basement and ground floor levels. Where the Peninsula Lobby demonstrates elegance and taste, the Arcade area is surprisingly, drab, stuffy and just seems long outdated. It doesn't share the timelessness quality of the rest of the Peninsula.
In short, for a much better shopping experience for luxury brands such as those found at the Peninsula Arcade, we suggest visiting some of Hong Kong's newer and more modern shopping malls. For luxury end shopping in particular, we suggest Lee Gardens (Causeway Bay), the top floors of Pacific Place (Admiralty) and Landmark (Central). These are more comfortable and atmospheric locations for high-end shopping in Hong Kong.
