“Relatively easy hike with great geologic area at the end of it ;)”

Relatively easy hike with great geologic area at the end of it ;)
Go first to Saikung where you cab take a breakfast with many options both asian and western. If you like pastry, the Wellcome next to McDo is selling some from la Rose Noire. Take bus 94. You then have a 12 km walk around the Reservoir, on a road without cars (except green taxis), mostly flat. The reward is the very interesting geologic area next to the second dam. There used to be a huge volcano here long time. There is some taxis there usually if you prefer to hike only one way.

“Amazing views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2011

I took the 299 from Shatin to Sai Kung and then the 94 bus to Pak Lam Chung and took a 9km trek by High Island Reservior to the East Dam. This gives you some amazing vistas of High Island Reservior and surrounding areas and you can also go by taxi but I think you wont have chance to enjoy the views. The actual East Dam and hexagonal volcanic rocks are pretty impressive and you can get views of Po Pin Chau and Fa Shan which used to be joined together. Definately worth a visit as an off the beaten track thing to do.

“Interesting area with special geology”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2011

Nice geowalk, with a visit to the Geoparc and info center about the geology of the area. Walk along the road for 4 km is not recommended, nothing special, but the hexagonal columns are interesting and worth the trip.
