Owner description: Sai Kung is a small fishing village with picturesque boats, beaches and mountain scenery. The fresh seafood is plentiful and there are many dining options and wine bars along the seaside promenade. A day at the beach here makes for a nice change of pace from Hong Kong.

“Amazing harbor and seafood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

The water's edge is lined with seafood restaurants. Fisherman pull up to the water wall with fresh catches. Sai Kung is well worth the long van ride and you can follow up lunch with a walk along the nearby dog park.

Sai Kung is difficult to get to because you need to know the van routes that will take you there. Of course, you can hop on a taxi but it is a long ride from the center of things.

“Laid-back quiet fishing village close to Kowloon, good day trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

This is a good break from the bustling, noisy Hong Kong; I took the small yellow bus 1A from Dundas St in Mong Kok, only HK$15 each way, 40 minutes ride to Sai Kung.
Its a fishing village with good seafood restaurants along the harbour front, though not that cheap and a bit touristy. Many offer a set menu from HK$300 / £25 plus. Its cheaper to go a couple of streets inland and eat with the locals. I visited Sushi Tenku and had a great set lunch for HK$100 / £8.
The village has a similar feel to Stanley or Aberdeen on the HK island south side. Shopping is less good though. Quite a few expats stay here as they get a bigger flat/living space and quieter, cleaner living environment than in central Kowloon.
There are boat trips to the out-lying islands. A nice day trip.

“Long hike, away from the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

Winter time tip: No speedboat will come for you - plan an early hike, unless you'd like to night hike back to the road to get a cab. Would say its an intermediate hike good for those who find Dragon's Back and Twins piece of cake.

“Hong Kong’s Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

Don’t call me mad if I ask you the question have you seen a village in Hong Kong. Sai Kung is just that – a fishing village nestled in the Sai Kung peninsula in the New Territories of the north-east. The history of this village dates back to the year 1400 and despite all the new developments in Hong Kong Sai Kung retains its rural character. The MTR has not yet made its debut here. So, to reach Sai Kung your last MTR stop is Diamond Hill and from there you take the bus. Sea food eateries are the life line of this place and the choice is enormous and here you can choose your fish and get them cooked to your liking. The promenade is a great place to meander. For hikers Sai Kung is a delight and they can lose themselves to the charms of the Sai Kung Volcanic Rock Region.

“Lush, spacious and beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

We traveled to Sai Kung to visit family members that relocated due to jobs.

The area is very beautiful with plenty of open space, albeit very hilly.
