“ICON hotel is the Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2011

This hotel just opened in April and do they have their act together. Service, people, accommodations and the location in Kowloon are fantastic to excellent. The hotel is affiliated with the Shanghai Polytechnic Institute with one of the best Hotel Management University programs. Our daughter goes to Cornel, so they better watch out. This hotel must be a teaching or academic facility for the University. From the moment you walk in the door you feel at home with the light scent of ginger lily, to the great view from the Club Lounge and Pool of HK city/ day or night. I have stayed at many global top tier hotels and this is now one of my favorites. I would come back in a minute, well a few more months.

Room Tip: Ask for club lounge rooms with a view.

Dear William,

Thank you so much for your glowing review.

Hotel ICON is a unique hotel with one true goal; to quietly be the best at what we do.

From a small start 8 months ago we have introduced the ICON way of doing things focused around creating an experience “unlike any other”.

And while that’s been happening, you’re right, we’ve helped elite student interns to become future hospitality leaders, providing the industry a platform for excellence and innovation and thereby help other hotel companies provide much better service too.
If I may clarify one point, we have no affiliation with any University in Shanghai, we are owned by Hong Kong Polytechnic University and fully integrated with the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM).

Thank you once again for your positive feedback. We sincerely look forward to your next visit.

Kind regards,

Janet Wu

My partner & I stayed here for 5nights. Check-in was easy & fast & it was a delight to have most people on reception speak English as our cantonese is very basic. We were in a club room with Harbor views-awesome view of the harbor! The hotel is new & very modern. Loved the foyer with the grass & flower wall & the smell in the foyer was so good! Rooms were big & comfortable! We loved the bathroom, moved the Bose dock in there & soaked in bath at night-great way to relax after a huge day sightseeing. Free mini bar & Nespresso machine restocked was a treat & the free Wi-Fi was so fast.
We took advantage of the club cocktails in the afternoon with our package-it was so relaxing & they made a good drink with a great view. The club manager came around & made sure we were having a great stay. She also gave us her card with her number on it, incase we needed help or were out sightseeing & no one spoke English-she would translate for us.
The pool & gym facility were great & had an awesome view of the Harbor.
Buffet breakfast was good. Sometimes ran out of food & wouldn't get restocked but just asked the chef & he would cook it up straight away.
We arrived @ 8am as our cruise docked at 6:30am. They took great care of us, stored our luggage so we could go sightseeing. But we just wanted to relax. They took us up to there waiting room, free soda, coffee, nespresso machine, fruit, papers, magazines, TV & comfortable chairs.
Concierge would get a taxi for us in seconds & tell them where we wanted to go as taxi drivers speak minimum English.
Great stay, very helpful & would recommend this hotel.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel ICON for three days last month and found the property excellent. We stayed in a club level room, and upon arrival at the property were escorted up to the 28th floor to check in . Staff was friendly and got us into our room quickly. We were on the 25th floor facing the harbor, and the view was as good as advertised. Enjoyed watching all the lights come on in the evenings, especially as many buildings had converted over to their holiday displays! The room itself was nice and big by market standards, with a king bed and lots of desk and storage space. If I had one complaint it was the bathroom - while it included all modern conveniences the layout was somewhat funky, and positioning of the shower could lead to some pretty big water spills if you weren't careful. Lighting in the bathroom was also a little dim, felt kind of like you were getting dressed in a cave. Insulation of the room was good, as I never heard other guests coming back to the room.

We did take advantage of a lot of property amenities. Went up to the club lounge for complimentary cocktails all three nights we were there, which was relaxing after exploring the city all day. Also got a chance to use the pool, which overlooks the harbor and offers a great view at sunset. The pool was heated, but could get a little chilly at night as it was pretty windy that high up. I also used the fitness center one day and the equipment was in great condition. They had a couple machines I hadn't seen before and were fun to try.

Ate at the lobby restaurant one night that we were there, prices were reasonable and the food was good. Service was a little slow, but the restaurant was very busy as it was raining out and most people didn't want to venture out. Breakfast was a good mix of American and local food - enjoyed the full buffet downstairs more than the smaller offering up on the club level.

The rate we got was at least a couple hundred dollars cheaper than we would have paid for a club room at the Intercontinental or the Shangri-La, and given the newness of the facility and the great staff I think it was a great deal. Did not get to see the rooms at either property but did have dinner at the Intercontinental one evening, and some of the public areas were starting to show their age. Would have no problem recommending this hotel to friends or family, and would stay again if we ever find ourselves back in Hong Kong.

Room Tip: Pay up for the harbor view. It will make the trip alone

A friend kindly booked me into this new hotel, on Kowloonside....well done, thanks!
The moment I walked in, I knew it was going to be good....friendly and attentive staff when I checked in....and that was just for starters. Nearly all the staff acually smiled....hey, that has to be a first in HK!
I liked the the arty/design/contemporary feel....without it being OTT.
I was on the club floor, great room, spacious and comfortable. Loved the shower, and some
thoughtful touches like the utility box with the scissors, sellotape, staples etc. Slept like a log.
Generous perks with laundry, free mini bar and included breakfast, tea and cocktails.
It was the first time that a Club lounge looked like and felt like a club lounge.... no "nargly" red
but a perfect dry martini, made to order. Needless to say it was busy, up there... and had a good buzz.
Chinese restaurant was well above average, and we had the dim sum lunch....the hot and sour soup was spot-on. I liked the Market restaurant....very wide selection of fresh sea food,
with enough variety to keep most people happy.....and it has it's own outside terrace. So I could slip out for a ciggy with the coffee. Not cheap, but good value.
Overall, a very enjoyable experience....I hope they keep up the good work!

Room Tip: Book club room, harbour view.

From the hotel room, we could watch the Symphony of Lights laser show at 8pm every night. However, the hotel is quite a walk from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR. The thing that makes up for the distance is, there are many good eateries around the area.

The free mini bar is quite a draw especially with the free m&ms chocolates -- my kids loved it!

THe design is very chic and slick. That's what ChicChick likes! ;)

Room Tip: Ask for the harbour view rooms. Worth paying the few dollars more.

Excellent front desk staff. They are very professional and helpful. I like the location as well. It is only 5 mins walk from Hung Hom station which I can take it to Guangzhou and to Shenzhen.
