“In the thick of it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

The location of this hotel is great if you want to step out of the front door and straight into the heart of this bustling metropolis. We stayed here because of its proximity to the MTR and downtown check-in before flying back to the UK. It has an unprepossessing entrance but once you step out of the lift into reception, it has a relaxed and quiet efficiency and comfort about it. The service is exceptional, really attentive and this scores big with me. I have stayed in a backpacker hotel at the other end of the island but it was too far out and the Mandarin Oriental was way to expensive for me so this hotel perfectly balances budget and location. The room was adequate for one night, the ensuite very tasteful and all exceptionally clean, very boutique in style. Fantastic night's sleep in very comfortable bed, soft pillows, didn't want to get up. All usual facilities in room like tea and coffee, some internet and wifi available - internet accessible on terminals in reception too, hairdryer and so on making it convenient as well as restful We had a free upgrade to a room at the back/ side but the view was of a tired and shabby but very real Hong Kong. The price is just about at the limit, wouldn't want to pay more. The professionalism of the staff however made me feel that this would be a safe base to explore this wonderful city from. They even offered to get my broken computer fixed for me.

Room Tip: Be wary of the free upgrade if you're staying for any length of time as you might want to consid...

I enjoyed my one night stay here, the bed was very comfortable with great quality linen. Really nice bathroom and shower together with quiet but powerful air conditioning. The room was smaller than anticipated. There was no wifi in my room - there was a hard wired internet connection but that didn't help me with my ipad. There is wifi in the reception lobby but not really ideal when paying 2200HKD per night. Overall it's a nice hotel in a really good location but because of no wifi I would probably check out some other options when I return to HK.

We got a free upgrade upon arrival, which was lucky, so although the hotel is very expensive, I suspect our room would have been much smaller without this. The hotel has a wonderful boutique feel and is very quiet. This and the comfortable beds make sleeping very easy and very pleasurable! The bathroom is a nice size with a large shower and mirror. The staff are also very helpful and public areas all smell very nice! Oh, and there's free wifi too!

The location is the hotel on Wellington Street in Central and there are plenty of tasty eateries on the street or not far away.

Hong Kong is a fabulous place and staying at the Butterfly is a great base from which to explore.

Stayed here for two nights on the tail end of our vacation. Location is very convenient right in the middle of Causeway Bay. Very convenient to the MTR, we preferred going to the Times Square station. Nearby is Canal St, and plenty of places to eat nearby. The room is towards the smaller side. Bathroom glass doors don't shut completely so there has to be comfort factor with your fellow hotel guest Complimentary wi-fi is a nice touch. View of the Happy Valley track is nice as well.

We lived opposite Butterfly on Wellington and saw the place being fitted out so I feel it is like coming home. Rooms small but hey this is Central Hong Kong.
Free WiFi in rooms as well as tea/coffee facilities (nespresso too).
Depending on availability of rooms in Hong Kong it is a good price for location.
All rooms have windows either looking over Graham St market or Wellington St.
2 mins walk to mid level escalators and 100's of restaurants within 10 mins.

Very good service. The young bellboy was very friendly. He had given an extra mile in everything and well mannered. He helped me with the luggage from check in to check out. He got me a taxi in the rush hours. He has good fluent English and knows the locations in Central very well. He gave me all the recommendations for things to do and places to eat. I had breakfast in The Flying Pan. Their egg Benedict is amazing. I also had dim sum at Lin Heung Tea House for lunch and dinner in Yung Kee. The roast goose in Yung Kee is very tasty. I was able to see the light show (Symphony of Lights) in Aqualuna, thanks to the young bellboy for making the reservation. The manager should be proud in hiring this young bellboy. I strongly recommend this hotel to all my friends and family.

Just had a fantastic 3 night stay in Hong Kong. Almost randomly choose the Butterfly On Wellington based on a couple of tripadvisor comments. Excellent boutique hotel with fabulous staff who are extremely friendly and professional. Furnishings make you feel like you are in Hong Kong. East meets West. Right in the heart of all there is to do on Hong Kong Island. Great restaurants right nearby including a place to get a hearty "Aussie" breakfast and almost Melbourne like coffee...Wagyu Lounge (up a couple of streets in Soho). A beautiful Vietnamese restuarant 20 metres down the road called Nang Pham serving really fresh food....you will know you are there by the queue outside the door (take a number...it is worth the wait). Cool bar a street up under the escalator (near "...the Kozac"...cant remember the name but Lebanese). Easy access to the main shopping areas and also the traditional alley markets where the most amazing array of fruit vegetables meat fish etc are beautifully displayed. If you want to be in the heart of everything BUT with very quiet rooms and reception...then this is the place for you.
