“Great birthday dinner, wonderful service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

We went to Hong Kong for my boyfriend's birthday and Café Gray was recommended as a great place to go for a birthday dinner.

When I rang to make a reservation they could not have been more helpful. I spoke to Roman and not only did he offer to reserve a table with a harbour view but suggested having a special birthday pudding too.

On the night everything was perfect, the restaurant is very elegant and the atmosphere relaxed. We had the four course menu and true to his word we had a table with a great view special birthday pudding. We finished with coffee and lovely little chocolate chunks. The food was fantastic, the view was amazing and the staff were friendly and attentive. They even sent a birthday card signed by the staff. We had such a good time that we went in to the bar for cocktails rather than going on somewhere else.

I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough, not only for the views and the food but for the effort the staff went to, to make sure we had a very special evening.

“Wonderful tea experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

Our decision to have afternoon tea at Cafe Gray was a last minute one. We made our reservations through phone that morning on the bus to Stanley beach. After a stroll through Murray House and Blake's Pier, we spent an hour at Stanley market and had lunch at Lucy's nearby. Thereafter, our group of seven friends was divided on how to spend the rest of the day. Three of us opted for tea at Cafe Gray while the rest went shopping in Tsim Sha Tsui. The Upper House where Cafe Gray is located is a bit hard to find. We asked directions from the doorman at JW Marriott and he directed us to the side entrance to the Upper House which was very discreet. The signage was a logo H on the glass door. We took the escalator going up then an elevator to the 49th floor. Upon stepping inside the cool elegant environs, we knew we had made the right decision in choosing to have tea instead of shopping. We were led to a table by the large expansive glass windows. We oohed and aahed over the view. It was that spectacular. We had already been to The Peak and the views there were amazing too but this one was absolutely amazing. I think the understated elegance of the place had much to do with it as well. We then joked if the food would be up to par with the gorgeous view and we were happily surprised that it was great. One of us had the Cafe Grey Deluxe tea and she was very pleased with it. It was a pretty pink color and had the most delicious scent. I settled for my usual green tea and our other friend had her coffee. The tiered tray of savories and sweets was prettily arranged and delicious. Standouts for us in terms of taste and flavor were the lamb curry puff, roast beef sandwich, calamansi curd savarin, panna cotta and something with passion fruit that I cannot recall the name of but still remember how good it tasted. Another thing worth mentioning is that when I communicated with them through email before our arrival in Hongkong to inquire about price and if they required reservations, they replied very promptly and even attached the menu for my perusal. Altogether, it was a wonderful afternoon for us, female bonding and girl talk at its best, and the wonderful atmosphere and great food contributed to this memorable experience. Tea was supposed to be until 5:30 only and I was half expecting our server to say that we had to transfer to the bar area because they were expecting dinner reservations. Thankfully, this didn't happen. We stayed on until six pm and left in a joyous mood, but not before checking out their restrooms with the floor to ceiling glass walls. When I go back to Hongkong, I'll drop by Cafe Gray again, for dinner this time.

“What a view!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

This is a great place to bring tourists or business guests. The food is decent and the service is fantastic. I love the chocolates after the meals! The view is fantastic and the overall feel is very polished. Weekend brunches and business lunch specials make this place a winner!
