“Purely Business Hotel”

I stayed here because it was a conference flagship hotel. The conference is held at the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine which is about 800m away.
The main entrance is located behind the main road facing a slope of a hill, the smaller entrance at the main road is pretty obscured, and was nearly missed by my taxi driver.
Check-in was smooth. The room was clean, average sized and everything was working fine.
The breakfast spread was a mixture of Western and local fare ; average for me.
I managed to use the gym. Quite small, but the equipment is in good working order.
There is a small swimming pool outside the gym.
The hotel is located on a main road, and there are no nearby restaurants/eateries, except for a Starbucks or places of interest, except for a water theme park.
The hotel does provide an hourly free shuttle to the main city.

Long story short, this hotel places aesthetics over quality and practicality.

Now for the details - 3 main things stood out to me:
1. Cleanliness of the room. I had a double. The sheets on one bed had a brown stain on the top. When I lifted the top cover, I found that there were multiple small dark red stains on the sheets under. I moved onto the next bed and found multiple hairs on the sheets after I lifted them up. Finally, when I went to use the bathroom, I found a urine on the toilet seat.


2. Food (breakfast). I went 2 days to the breakfast buffet and it was sad. The quality of the food was inferior to how the hotel looks. Both choices of congee were watery. It was cloudy water. On another occasion, I got the omelette and it was undercooked and runny.

3. Finally, when I checked out of the hotel, I had to wait an hour for the shuttle and had nowhere to sit and wait. There were only 2 chairs in the spacious lobby, both occupied. I tried to get seating in the private lounge area (which wasn't quite clear from the website that was private). The staff politely asked me to leave, I'll give them that, but would not respond to any of my questions with anything other than "Sorry you need to leave this area." I then proceeded to ask the receptionist, whereupon she also did not know where I could go either. She could only point to the area...where there was no chair available.

My assessment of the hotel is that it places aesthetics over quality and practicality. The room looked great, but it wasn't clean. The food was advertised stylistically and the dining hall was beautiful, but food at a hostel I've stayed at tasted better. And the lobby was spacious and modernly designed but had no room for guests to sit while waiting.

I would not stay at this hotel again and certainly would not recommend it to anyone.

I stayed here as I had a meeting at the Academy of Medicine Hong Kong, which was just a 7 minute walk from the hotel. So it was very convenient. Otherwise, there did not seem to be much else around. Even the taxi driver from the airport got confused at the diversions with the road works, although he was reasonable enough to stop the meter at the point of him getting detoured. For the price, the room was reasonably spacious. I was apparently on a non-smoking floor, but there was definitely a smoky smell in the room and outside in the corridor as well. The gym only had 2 each of bicycle, treadmill and stepper, so it can get crowded. Beds were comfy. There was no proper desk chair so it was not so convenient when on the computer. The free wifi was quite fast. Breakfast buffet was basic. Once the MRT line is completed, then perhaps it would be OK, otherwise, don't stay here if you need to be in the central/Wan Chai area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the hill

The rooms were clean and ambience was good. It was a hill view room.Room service was quick.Hotel is situated away from tourist attractions but hotel provided very good shuttle service on many routes which saved time and money.As we reached hotel rooms were not ready for stay and they had no sitting arrangement in waiting area. we were not allowed to sit in the adjacent space as it was reserved for guests who opted for food package. We were allowed to sit there only on showing resentment.

Hotel is very modern. Rooms are spacious and bed is very comfortable. Although the location is far away the shopping area but I can get free shuttle to the Hong Kong Station and Wan Chai or from Hotel. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will recommend it.

The good: you get very reasonable prices if you book early. The hotel is clean and the stuff very helpful and friendly. Connecting rooms are great if you have children.
The average: room service menu options are limited, breakfast or lunch buffets are not very exciting and you are better off ordering a la card. The location is good if you want to visit ocean park or the beaches on the south side. If you are spending most of your time in Central it can be difficult to get a cab, although the hotel offers a shuttle bus to ifc which is helpful. The pool is in the shade most of the day and with the pollution in Aberdeen, particularly coming from the close by MTR station we never felt like hanging out there.

This hotel is part of a group, other hotel in this group may fare better but the L'hotel Hong Kong island south is a bit average for what they charge. It is a high rise hotel apparently converted from a factory property. Not a bad conversion, but location is a bit far from the main touristy spots, as public transport and road access to this hotel from the central district or causeway bay is prone to traffic jams, particularly with the constructions all around this area to extend the very efficient MTR to this area.
Positives: rooms are spacious - a rarity in this price range in Hongkong. Rooms are quiet, and some rooms even face green hills again a rarity in HK. Rooms are clean, and well serviced. Minuses : bed hard and not very comfortable, bed linen seems thin and of poor quality. Breakfast is very basic, very limited choice, even though the restaurant itself is quite spacious and pleasant. Hard to get taxis from front door , though the junior staff has to be commended for trying hard to get you one. Their free shuttle bus service not very helpful with limited runs and lots of guests queuing up for the limited service. Will I return? Probably not.

Room Tip: Choose higher floors, ask for rooms facing the hills behind the hotel
