“A delightful garden but tried too hard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

I know it is a nice garden in HK and it is relatively new and young. But it lacks direction and control in building it's own character and soul. They can take a lesson from the established gardens in Japan. It gave an impression of trying too hard and placing too many items in the limited space. Visitors can't access many features in the garden like the arched bridge, pagoda in the lake, some paths etc.A great garden should be more accessable for visitors. But don't take it as negatives, it is still worth your trouble to find time and effort to visit this garden. The vegetarian restaurant in the garden is actually very good but you just have to order your own dishes but not the set lunch menu. We pay over HK$300 for this excellent lunch for 2 persons, the set lunch menu is about HK$100 per person. Do try it and you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!

“Extremely serene and calm oriental style garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

It looks very much like gardens in Japan, but as you walk further in it connects to Chi Lin Nunnery, which is very unique. I suggest to visit the garden in early morning as there are less visitors and you can enjoy the scene and also you might bump into gardeners sculpturing trees in the garden. Very.

“Picture perfect... And free!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Beautifully maintained and pruned, this quiet oasis in the chaos of Kowloon is well worth a visit. There is piped-in music in some areas, beautiful vistas in others... Pagodas, waterfalls, artistic rocks... It's all a delight!

“Oasis in heart of HK”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

This little (free) gem is well worth the MTR ride, where it is nestled between skyscrapers but feels as if it is another world, or at least Japan. Pretty cool even on a very hot day because of all the water features, especially the waterfall over the restaurant. Many of the walkways were closed off, though, and prices in the gift shop (mostly Japanese items) were VERY high. Vegetarian restaurant quite refreshing and good; however they really need a picture menu because there was no way to make a selection from the description and some were fairly tasteless/textureless.

“Beautiful garden, very disappointing restaurant.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

Beautiful tranquil garden park, just a couple of minutes walk from Diamond Hill MTR staion and across the road from Chi Lin Nunnery. The mid size bonsai trees really impressed.
The vegetarian restaurant at the far end of the garden behind the waterfall seemed like the perfect place for lunch. Unfortunately not - we had the set price menu and 3 of the 5 dishes were just different shapes and colour of very slimy tofu pretending to be beef, pork and chicken; in half reasonabale sauces, though lacking any real flavour. Would put off any would-be vegetarian for life!
Avoid and take a lunch box - from a good veggie cafe if that's your thing!
Such a shame because the location behind the waterfall is lovely.
