“Terrible Meal, Terrible Service :-(”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

With two teenage boys in tow who thoroughly enjoy Chinese food here in the UK we couldn't wait to get to the Jumbo Floating Restaurant and indulge ourselves.

Wow, what a complete disappointment!

We were met with terrible service, non english speakers who didn't understand us at all. They are cheeky and provide you with an entree that we didn't order (and didn't eat) when we got the bill we realised they wanted to charge us for it - needless to say we refused and returned the full plate to them and asked them to reduce our bill.

We ordered a variety of dishes - some chicken, ribs and a duck.

The rice came out first - just the rice - then the ribs and some chicken - these were both cold so got returned and asked them to bring back a bit hotter - we never saw these again! So the only thing on our table at this time was rice - so we paced ourselves waiting for the other items to return to enjoy. They didn't arrive. Then about 20 minutes later the duck arrived - they kindly cut the skin off in front of us and placed it on some prawn crackers - then took the duck away to cut up in the kitchen - we didn't see this for another 20 minutes.

At this point we were fed up with the tasteless, cold food and the lack of service so we then asked them not to serve us any further food and to give us our bill - we told them we would be happy to pay for what we had eaten (4 plates of rice and some chicken) but nothing else. It got a bit awkward at this point but we stood firm because, to be frank, it was terrible. Our bill, for 4 x drinks, 4 x rice and we agreed to pay for the chicken was around 900HKD (£75.00) - so who knows how much it would have cost us had we been served everything we ordered.

This restaurant is overpriced, lacked flavour and has terrible service.

Personally I wouldn't recommend this to any British traveller - you may be disappointed.

“Dim Sum was surprisingly good for this touristy institution!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

Having visited Aberdeen fishing village, I saw the free shuttle boat that runs between the waterfront promenade and the floating restaurant, so I decided to go for the boat ride and visit the restaurant, more out of curiosity than anything else.
When I arrived it looked very enticing so I stopped for lunch, and had three dim sum dishes. All were very good indeed, and the service very attentive. The Smoked Duck Puffs were the best. Cost me just over HKD 100 including tea, see the menu attached in my pics. Good value for the quality.
Recommended if you're in Aberdeen, though obviously there are just as good dim sum restaurants on the main HK island. I liked One Dim Sum in Kowloon especially, much cheaper, see my review.

“For tourist only”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

We have friends from the U.S. so we took them to see this floating restaurant, very impressive with a ship voyage before you arrive the restaurant, elegant entrance although the decor is just so so, pretty crowded, service average, fresh but not very tasteful seafood, price are very expensive compare to other local seafood restaurants, being a Hong Kong resident, we never come without a foreign visitor!

“Tourists Tantalizing Tastes”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

Sydney Hong Kong boasts the famous Jumbo Kingdom floating restaurant. 10 minute pleasant free boat ride from harbor to restaurant dock. Two floors with two dining options; expensive and very expensive. This is a kitch place that uses all the paraphanalia to remind you that you are in an "authentic" Chinese restaurant. I chose to eat on the 2nd normal floor. Tables are geared for large groups-mostly rounds for 6-10 guests. Not 1-2 people friendly. Menu is extensive and again geared for larger groups. I ordered the beef and broccoli saute. Adequate portion for normal eaters; small for big eaters. The beef was chewy. The brocolli was al dente. With two local canned beers, 10% service charge, the bill was close to $50.00. Service is adequate but not friendly in the Western sense. No napkins to wipe the edges of your mouth were offered which was annoying. No problem getting forks and knives for western folks. There is a large themed picture taking area for the king to show off. All in all a one time experience. The harbor is filled with big yachts and fishing boats. I asked who owned the yachts and nobody had a clue to even tell me a tourist story.

“A great night out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

Dined at the Jumbo restaurant with a family group of 7 aged from 7 through to 70. It was a fun night. We caught a taxi from Causeway Bay, which took about 15 min. The boat ride out was great, even if it only lasts 5 min. The big yachts, and the lights of Jumbo are nice to see. The menu is quite extensive, and not too expensive. The service was very good, as was the food. My young boys liked visiting the fish tanks out the back. Make sure you take your photo sitting in the "Emperor's" chair to finish off with a nice tourist touch. Taxi's can be a bit light on at night at the Aberdeen side, so to avoid a wait, get the restaurant to book one for you.
