“It's just, alright.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

Stayed in HK Hostel for 2 nights with my family, we rented two rooms.
The rooms were extremely small, but so are all rooms/apartments in Hong Kong, so this, we understand.

We stayed on the top floor, the rooms were relatively still quite nice, so we had no complaints about it. But the wifi was only available on the 3rd floor - we didn't have any internet access from our rooms.
And when we went down to use the wifi, most of the time it didn't work. Luckily, they had a few computers there for use (internet worked fine on those).

But I got bitten by bed bugs when I was there - beds, not so clean.
Only good things about the place - Excellent location, and there was a really fun hostel party on one of the nights i was there. Got to meet all the other fellow backpackers.

Bad experience with this hostel.

The receptionist (if i am not mistaken, also the owner of the hostel) has an attitude problem. Such an [--]. They don't accept credit card (according to the owner) after seeing that I have cash. The owner doesn't help the guest. No wifi inside the room. You have to bring your own towel, although they offer towel rentals. The lobby wifi is almost impossible to surf because alot of the guest are connected in the wifi.

The hostel has 2 really small lift (max of 4 pax) and only 1 lift is working.

The room is really old, not well maintained. The paint is falling and a lot of water marks.

The bed is really hard and you are lucky if the bed has no bed mites.

Never check in this hostel. Better check in Sun Kong Hostel.

ask for a receipt. go ahead and try. check the room before you pay. be careful of the sneaky, dwarfish owner. rates seem reasonable...unless the owner's in a bad mood...bring some incense sticks or air freshner. great location.

Positive points: excellent location (supermarket over the road, MTR around the corner), fridge & small kitchen to make your own food, clean rooms, social common area, free wifi in the common room and our room (on 2nd floor), free water refill, large lockers in the dorm (bring own padlock), AC dorm.

Negative points: astonishingly hard beds (one bed in the 3-bed dorm was softer so this could be luck of the draw), and a smoky common room without AC. Dodgy lift - after getting stuck we took the stairs!

This hostel seems to be the banner for several smaller hostels - we booked "Kingston Inn" and ended up with a room in "Asia Inn". Reception is hard to find; the posters in several of the lobbies we entered warned against illegal guesthouses, leading us to think it had been closed down (in the end, the rooms were marked as legal with a sticker on the door). The directions from our booking were hopeless and the security guards in the lobbies are unhelpful. Reception (on the 3rd floor of the Paterson Building) staff is brusque but helpful enough (some friends found the service rude).

We stayed here as part of our rtw trip so chose this hostel due to the price and location. The room was tiny, with tiny vented window and tiny bathroom. The bed was hard and we asked numerous times during our stay for a better room but were fobbed off all the time being told that they were full. They put an extra duvet under the bed sheet to make it softer. In the entrance to the building there was a sign saying that the hostel is illegal and also in the lift there was a sign stating that it is illegal. The reception area has a toaster and small kitchette and we needed to come here to use the wifi as it didn't work in the room. Other people were smoking here so it wasn't very pleasant for spending a lot of time in. The man at reception was rude and not very helpful and could not find our booking upon arrival so he ended up asking us what price we'd been quoted even though we'd booked it directly through the hostel's own website. The location is good though. 2 min walk to the underground/subway/metro. Lots of shops and restaurant nearby and there was also a supermarket across the street.

I think HK Hostel the best hostel di HK island. Depend on location, its very strategic.

Located in the area Couseway, there are many shops, include IKEA. If you want to get into the Patterson building, you must know the password no building entrances. You can ask for the password to the hostel manager by email.

For the payment, you can swipe your debit/credit card.
