“Great welcome for HK first timers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

Traveled with my wife and son on a holiday covering Sydney, Hong Kong and then onto Phnom Penh. This was was our first trip as a family for many years and our first time in Hong Kong. We stayed in a suite with double beds for a great price, quite reasonable given our late bookings. A very luxurious feel and we felt very safe as it was in a great location. The room was excellent, with a separate living room and the view was very nice. Very very clean! The concierge was very helpful with setting up a tour on the hop on buses and Star Ferry.

First stay at this property while in Hong Kong. Exceeded expectations. Express train from HKG airport to Hong Kong station. Few steps to seated area for free shuttle (HR 2) to front door of the hotel. It cannot be easier. Hotel is a short walk to the Star Ferry. Wonderful restaurants around the property. I chose the hotel's Cafe Renaissance for a light meal and it was exceptional. Best thing about this hotel, it's staff. Made me feel both welcome and special. Hong Kong is a jewel and this hotel fits the City. I recommend it for business, or leisure time with the family. The hotel caters to both in an exceptional way as can be seen by the pool and children entertainment areas.

Room Tip: Don't be turned away by ongoing construction. The receptionist explained why my pre-arrival pre...

We stayed in the Renaissance for the first three nights of our Honeymoon. We were offered an upgrade to a Club Suite at a reasonable price so we went for this. It was the best decision we could have made as our room was excellent (a separate living room and lovely bathroom with an amazing view). The real bonus was the access to the Club Lounge. We didn't think we might use it a huge amount, but the weather was horrendous when we were there so we had the evening drinks and canapés all three nights and the afternoon twice, so certainly got the value and use of the lounge.
Location is a little quiet, but Wanchai is only a 5-10 minute wall away.
Despite being tired after arriving arrivibg and the awful weather, we really enjoyed our three nights here and would recommend the hotel. The greeting by staff and professional welcome too when we arrived was a nice touch.

Stayed here for 4 nights in August 2013 on a trip to visit friends in HK.

Travelled with wife and 8 month old daughter and everything was great, as a Marriott rewards member we got free wifi and were also upgraded from a garden view room to a harbour view room, the view from the room was fantastic.

This hotel provides excellent facilities for people with small children, which was a great relief as we were a little worried due it being more aimed at business people than families. We were provided a baby crib (of good quality) and also a portable baby bathtub (my wife said it was from mothercare) as our room only had a shower cubicle, all free of charge. These made our stay a lot more comfortable.

The room wasn't huge but it was plenty big enough, we had a baby crib and a stroller folded up and still had room to walk around. The design whereby you walk into the room straight into the bathroom is a little strange but it was fine, no complaints. I liked the fact that the bathroom door, when closed, basically insulated your room from the front door and any noise out in the corridor, so you get quiet. The windows are also sound proofed and we didn't hear any noise from traffic outside. The only noise issue came from noisy people upstairs the first night, this is because the rooms have wooden floors. In this day and age I still don't understand why hotels do that, carpets might not look at 'cool' but they're far better for keeping it quiet.

The location is excellent, in Wanchai but not close to the dirty part of Wanchai. There were always plenty of taxis around and we never waited more than about 5 mins for a taxi from the queue in front of the hotel. The star ferry to TST is also 5 mins walk away, and makes it very easy (and cheap, a trip is $2) to get over to Kowloon.

We didn't use the restaurant in the hotel so I can't comment on that as there are plenty of places to eat all over HK island, but the swimming pool was excellent, probably the best hotel pool I've seen.

The staff were very friendly and always willing to help, service in HK isn't generally done with a smile so it was a nice surprise to see so many smiling faces here.

There is a free shuttle bus from the hotel to the Airport Express at Hong Kong station in central, we just missed it when we left so ended up taking a taxi as we were in a bit of a hurry, but we were told it leaves roughly every 20-25 minutes. A taxi only costs $40 to the airport express though so it doesn't break the bank.

If we come back to HK, we'll have no hesitation in staying here again.

Room Tip: Become a Marriott member, you're more likely to get upgrades if you are

We stayed for three nights as a family (5 young kids) in two adjoining rooms. Service was prompt and efficient for the most part. The views (harbor) from our rooms were fantastic and kept our children busy for most of the time we spent in our rooms. Excellent pool and play ground area that is shared with the Hyatt which is next door. The breakfast buffet downstairs is one of the best I have ever attended with a wide variety of excellent choices. The service manager at breakfast greeted my family by name on our second and third mornings, which almost left me speechless.

Rooms were standard for this type of hotel, but housekeeping did a good job refreshing the rooms each morning and were prompt when we called for additional complimentary bottled water.

Only problem was at checkout when the staff added back the complimentary breakfast charges for my children (our promo allowed kids under 12 to eat free) which I had come down the night before to make sure they were billed correctly. Also, even though I booked both rooms from my online Marriott profile using my rewards number, they removed the number from one of the rooms. At check out I made sure they put it back on, which they did. After checking out only points for one of the rooms showed up in my rewards account and it took a couple of emails to get it straightened out, but eventually they did.

Overall a great experience!

Room Tip: Harbor view rooms have excellent views of HK harbor. Well worth it!

The first time we stayed in Renaissance Harbour View Hotel on Hong Kong Island was for a convention, which was a smart choice, as catching a taxi after exhibition closes has proven to be impossible, and even if you get one, you are likely to end up in a traffic jam. Our colleagues who picked a cheaper hotel not far away had to wait for a couple of hours to get a taxi. The bar downstairs has live music on weekends and there is an interesting gallery of Chinese art. Chinese restaurant in the hotel is excellent. Renaissance hotel is conveniently located next to ferry terminal and it's very quick to get to Tsim Sha Tsui.

Room Tip: Pay a bit extra for a room on an executive floor. You not only get a better room on a higher floor w...

Great hotel, with great employees always trying their best to make a memorable stay. I used to saty at the Sheraton on TST, but lately I had the feeling that they did not care too much about their guests, especially when asking for something. This has never happened to me at the Renaissance. People are willing to go the extra mile. The hotel is still under renovation, but you never notice any noise. The new rooms are practical and really nice!
