My husband and I dined at Lung King Heen on our first night in Hong Kong, hoping to erase our terrible memories of Chinese cuisine from our 3 week trip to China over 2 years prior. Mission accomplished! Lung King Heen is without question a top restaurant offering the best Chinese food we've ever had, absolutely worthy of a Michelin star. But the service level was such that I would never have believed they actually had 3 stars.
Our meal was delicious--every course a culinary adventure with amazing textures and flavors. The wine pairings were impressive, including some I'd never tried before and most perfectly matching the unique flavors presented.
The service was the biggest weakness in our opinion. While overall the service was fine, there were several big blunders. First, most glaringly, we had ordered the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings...only to not be given wine until our second course after we inquired when the pairing would begin. HUGE MISTAKE--which they never acknowledged nor tried to compensate us in any way. Second, our moist cloths were never changed until several courses into our meal. Third, at various times my plate was cleared while my husband was still finishing his. NOT GOOD. Finally, we once asked for a refill of a wine since it covered 2 courses only to wait until after we'd already finished the second course. Not impressive, especially considering their initial blunder with the missed wine pairings!
Overall, we very much enjoyed the meal. But for the price and the expectation of 3 Michelin stars, the service wasn't even close to being up to muster. We would not return.
