“Amazing: clean, hygenic and interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

The fish market is down the street of Kong Lung Seafood Restaurant where we had a great lunch. The market is amazingly clean and well run. Better than a visit to most Aquariums. There are the biggest crayfish I have ever seen; and I have seen big ones! Worth a visit!

“Quite an experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

You really need to know what to expect when arriving at the fish market - its quite an explosion on the senses, both sight, smell and sounds! It's probably good to go with someone who can advise you (we had a business colleague with us) who can negotiate and ensure you arent ripped off. Everyone is keen for you to get into their restaurant and can almost hassle you - you have to be quite determined and keep walking until you find a place you want to eat at - we ate on the water which was actually pleasant. We ordered lobsters and prawns - and they were amazing. Simply cooked but everything was delicious and they were hepful in terms of helping us find wine etc. Definitely an experience to be enjoyed while in Hong Kong - but its an experience with a difference!

“Sights and sounds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

Of course, the shopkeepers aren't going to be the most pleasant of people. You wouldn't be pleasant if you had hundreds of tourists walking into your shop every day, looking at stuff but never buying anything. That aside, there was plenty to see, although it does get repetitive after you've seen the general categories of animals on sale -fish, turtles, dogs, miscellaneous reptiles etc. It was still fun though -we were trying out all sorts of snacks (we reckon there's got to be at least 1 food shop for every 5 pet shops) as we walked. A nice, albeit crowded and slightly smelly, experience.

“Beware prices and very commercial attitude!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

In other words they will rip you off if you let them. In the middle of day, stalls are full of fish, restaurants empty, you expect truly unique Asian experience but what you get is something like really fresh meal at Red Lobster. Alas, gone the days when this probably was worth going there and telling other people.
I don't dislike the place, in fact I thought it was super clean. (well only when you compare that to Vietnam markets, Thai markets or Cambodian markets – this one is super clean and not smelly!!!!) However, the essential Asian culture is nowhere to be seen at this place. All restaurants have very simple design, some overlooking water and some not. Well if it's your first such experience and you novice to Asia just go there. Please be prepared to pay for your lunch multiple of what a meal would cost in town. The argument that it's fresh won't justify the price though. After all, there is no great value added as fish is local and many dishes are simple "steamed" food.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend it unless you explored Hong Kong in and out and you have nothing else to do. There are many more places to eat fresh seafood @ more reasonable.

“Stinky and has more than just fish”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

This area of town smelled BAD. There where people selling fish as pets as well as tanks and other supplies. There were also fish and other seafood sold to eat AND pet shops that sold dogs, cats, rabbits etc. we walked around at night and it made for some cheap entertainment.
