“In the heart of Kowloon Bay- Newton Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2012

A wonderful Business and family stay at Newton Place back in Sep 2011. The hotel is just 4/5 minutes walk from the nearest Metro station and hence we can access all islands- Main land Hongkong, Kowloon and infact the remote Lantau by train. Fantastic facing Rooms -most of them facing the Bay and my Room on the 21st Floor was Icing on the Cake. The In room furniture were great and especially the Glass made Chair to work on the Office table was great.

Stayed here for two nights in a business trip and was booked for me by the company. Hotel was well located for the kwun tong area but not if you want to head to Kowloon or hong kong island. Hotel is clean, good breakfast, provides a shuttle service to and from hotel and airport and also a shuttle bus to main office buildings in the kwun tong area.

Upon checking in, we were not asked if we wanted a twin or double bed or if we want a smoking level. Ended up with a smoking level with 2 twin beds. Imagine the shock for my parents and myself who is travelling with my fiance.

Location of hotel is not optimal. Nearest MTR is Ngau Tau Kok which is a 15mins walk for my family. Not near to any places worth seeing and imagine after a tired day out, one still gotta walk 15mins back to the hotel..it greatly dampens our mood.

Though staffs are considered quite good and cheerful for Hong Kongers, but sorry..definitely wont stay over again.

Room Tip: Indicate and state if you want a twin or double bed and if you want a smoking level

When you travel‘s goal not the site seeing you just need the clean and comfortable room and helpful staff. Newton place provides all of them. Room is quite big, especially comparing with the other hotel we had stayed in HK. All amenities are new and clean. The only bad thing – industrial area around the hotel: the streets are very narrow and occupied by trucks.

I have stayed there for 5+ times and I have extensive idea of it.
There is nt much to says, that I have nt said in the heading, but below are more details.

I prefer it coz its located near my work place (Kowloon bay), and i love my morning sleeps.
For a tourist visiting HK for sight seeing, i would say there are plenty of better options.

Below are the +ves & -ves

+ Absolutely neat and clean
+ Fast & free Internet.
+ Im addicted to their breakfast buffet (simple & nice) @ 88$ HKD
+ The staff is friendly and professional.
+ Hotel Looks are Modern, Inside/Outside: rooms, alley, bathrooms, carpet, furnishings, etc. fully carpeted.
+ Good sea/ harbour view if you get a front facing room (22th + floor).

-ves:
- A big minus: no facilities - no pool, no place to go to- other than room, no terrace, no
- Restaurant is under renovation since 5 months
- Far from the happening places (but near MTR metro line)
- no bath-tub

General Notes:
o) Malls & food: APM & MegaBox are the closest Malls to the hotel, then there are: Telford 1,2, Amoy Plazas, etc. These malls have great food. There are plenty of Chinese restaurants in the area, but for other cuisines, you have to goto the malls.

o) some of the facilities are:
hot-water, e-safe, internet (LAN), refrigerator, laundry, restaurant (not presently@2010), 24hrs desk, cable.

o) Its mostly taken up by visitor groups (40+ ppl), and is crowded from Jan-Jun. I dont like that part.

o) I would nt call is value for money, coz it depends, how much you got it for, I guess a standard double bed room for $600 HKD is a nice deal, but if you pay more than $900 HKD, for it, its not worth it.

The Newton Place Hotel, 165 Wai Yip St, Kwun Tong, Hong Kong is off the beaten track. It's not anywhere near places you will want to go shopping, dine, or visit for cultural purposes. Which, to my mind, makes it the perfect business hotel. All the riff-raff can jam themselves in to Central or Kowloon, while I'll be saving money and being productive far away from the maddening crowds.

The hotel is a medium-sized facility, probably 25-stories, adjacent to the old Hong Kong airport. It's three blocks from the MRT station, three blocks from the giant Millenium Center office complex, four blocks from the massive APM shopping center, and one block from McDonald's, if you like slumming. But in the general area there is nothing to see and little to do, so budget extra taxi fares or schedule for some MRT time.

But once in the hotel, things work fine. The rooms are smallish and spartan, but certainly clean enough and well-equipped. The view of the harbor is excellent, so be sure to request a water-front view. The bathrooms are small but perfectly servicable. Every room has a desk and free internet. All in all, everything the typical road warrior needs but a full "business center."

Service in the hotel is diffident, at best. English is clearly a third or fourth language. Most of the hotel visitors are Asian tourists. The hotel restaurant only serves Asia food, and while it's tasty it's over-priced comparatively. So, hey, it's not the Carlyle. The price isn't either. My room was US$90 a night, which is very fair for a modern, clean hotel in Hong Kong.

I have only two complaints, and they're minor. First, the hotel lobby is large and spacious. In fact, too spacious. There's absolutely no place to sit, talk, or wait for your visitors to arrive. It's just a big empty hall that needs a bit of warmth and comfort added.

Secondly, breakfast is awful. Do not pay the HK$89 to eat breakfast at the hotel, it simply is inedible. Instead, pop outside of the hotel, walk one or two blocks and enjoy any of the local restaurants with picture-pointing menus, and get decent local food for 1/8th the price. Or walk three blocks to Starbucks, visit my lovely friend "Shan" who works there most mornings, and get yourself a very respectable java jolt.

While on a tour, we stayed here. Clean and upscale for the price. Area is coming back from subway construction. Safe street at night, so it seemed. Nice family food around the corner.
