“I miss the cordial team of 2009-2011”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

I stayed in this hotel almost continuously for more than 3 years since 2009 in the same room 1216. The team of the hotel in the yearly years was really good. From 2009-2011 I was overwhelmed by the cordial and friendly attitude of the team of Western restaurant - J'cafe. The J' Cafe Manager was excellent in English. During my long stays in China, I have rarely seen any with an English skill like her and so cordial and co-operative attitude. The supervisor had a commendable knowledge in English and was extremely friendly and fun loving. It was a home away from home where all knew about my choices and preferences. It always felt as if I am at home. My family considered the Manager and staffs of J'cafe as her cordial friends. I have visited many star and normal hotels around the World but The Western Restaurant team here between 2009-2011 made us feel this to be the best hotel we have ever experienced.. more a home than a hotel. But these days are gone. This is 2013.

Now I still stay as preferred by the management of the factory I need to visit. But it is not the same pleasant experience like before. It is becoming harder and harder to communicate in English and my Chinese is too poor to express all in detail. Some seniors do speak some English but for most others the communication gap is increasing. The hotel is far from the city, hence it feels lonely during long stays and especially on holidays when I have nothing else to do in leisure time. The surrounding is very lonely. Need to go to down town which takes more than 30mins. It is difficult to get Taxi during odd hours.

I know it is an impossible dream but I hope to see the some of the best of the 2009-2011 team, especially of Western Restaurant, to be back in this hotel to bring back the golden days when the service felt so homely and cordial, not like a service at all.

I can not get WiFi in my room in 12th floor. The lobby WiFi sometimes make some problems. It is a bit difficult to regulate the Air conditioning when the temperature is moderate. Before we had a air circulation system in the room but no more.

Having said all these, I express my gratitude to the present team for the services rendered to me since mid-2011 until now. I hope the senior management will improve all soon and the better days like before will be back in near future.

Overall i am impressed about my 1 night stay in this hotel.
The lobby is elegant, with an impressive height, the Christmas tree was very elegant (a touch! i felt at home!), the room is elegant with a touch.
I cannot say that this can be considered the best hotel ever, but the new modern style is giving a fresh taste and a good feeling.

A luxurious hotel with a beautiful lobby and roomy comfortable rooms. My only complaint is that the front desk refused to exchange my $20 bills because they are not pristine without any blemish or fold lines. The breakfast is good with a noodle bar and egg/omelette cooked to order.

I stayed here for 3 days business trip. If you are looking for a decent hotel near the industrial zone or the airport, this could be the choice. But if you wanna see some of the city of Chongqing, the location is really a problem. Literally, it is in the middle of nowhere, no shops, no restaurants and no cabs.
The room is nice and comfortable, bathroom clean, breakfast not a feast but abundant.

Room Tip: There is a light rail station nearby. Use it especially in a rainy day. The traffic is really terrib...

Location
The hotel is located in the middle of nowhere which has the benefits of being quiet but there is nothing close by like shops and so you are confined to the hotel. However I think about maybe 15 minutes walk there is a large shopping mall up the highway as we drove past at night. But it is up a main road. There is also a overground train running past but didn't see a station close by. I think in the immediate area there is just factories. From the airport it is about 20 minutes drive by taxi and should cost no more than 30RMB.
Room
The room is quite large with adequate comfort amentities such as fkat screen TV, a desk area and two lounge chairs. The lighting is ok and has dimmer options on the lamps. The room is big and tall but lacks any character or ambience. The bed is ok but not the softest. The TV has a good selection of channels especially for westerners (HBO, National Geographic, Star Movies etc..). The internet is confined to the desk with a long cable. The only issue with the room , it was cold at night, turning air con off but couldn't see how to turn heating on. The bathroom offered both shower and bath and worked well with a decent supply of amenities. The room was generally quite clean.
Facilities
The hotel has three restaurants a pool and gym. However did not see gym or pool and only saw the restaurant for breakfast. There is also no spa so no massages available after long flight. Was forced to order room service as arrived at restaurant at 9pm to be told it was now closed. Told only room service options.
Ordered steak sandwich from room service with water, arrived 40 minutes later with the meat cold and staff member forgot drink or any sauce. Had to send it back as ordered medium to well, but it was bleeding and cold. Returned about 25 minutes later, this time presented better however meat was still underdone( still ate it as couldn't be bothered to send it back) and about 4 hours later woke up with bad diarrhoea (hadn't eaten anything apart from steak for about 6 hours so not sure I would recommend room service.
Had breakfast in the morning but was also rather disappointed, there were many hot food options but none looked very appetising (either too greasy, watered down or food looked a little cheap) so settled for toast. Bread/pastry options were also not that fresh and great. There were some fruit options though which looked ok, they also had sushi but not covered and not in ice so didn't go anywhere near that. Staff did not speak any english and was vague and the only member of staff stood by counter, didn't offer any tea or seen clearing tables.
Staff
There seems to be some hype about the staff from previous review but to be honest was disappointed. Check-in was efficient and fast but staff were not so friendly during process offering very little dialogue. The restaurant/ room service staff were useless (forgot stuff) and also did not speak English. In general staff were not so warm and looked glum, didn't smile much and even front desk staff were a little unwelcoming.

Overall the hotel was ok for a very quick stop but I would rather stay either closer to airport or city (at least an area with something going on). The food and staff brought down the place and i would say its more a high 3 star standard comparing to other Chinese hotels.

This hotel in on a par with Hilton, Sheraton, Crown Plaza.

Large comfortable rooms, great bed and nice linens.

It's very quiet because of the location, but if you're visiting CFMA in Chongqing it's perfect.

The staff works very hard to fulfill every request.

I am staying here for about 2 years, in total, since 2009. Until mid-2011 this hotel WAS THE BEST I have ever experienced anywhere in the World - in terms of hospitality, guest care and all around co-operation. Since last year things started changing as many efficient & caring people working here started leaving. One of the most caring Manager, as per experience of me and some more long staying foreigners, left this week. Now, with almost all the good, efficient & cordial earlier staffs gone, its really DIFFICULT TO STAY here. Its often a pain to communicate anything in English. Nothing changed after all the suggestions to solve many problems we often encounter. Seems, now, nobody cares. Seems they are happy to make the hotel crowdy with large group bookings and do not need to care about long staying guests anymore. Wish the higher management would have been prudent enough to realise that a good hotel is not made by only rooms & restaurants but the hospitality & efficiency of the people working there to make guests feel homely & cared . Wish they had hold back their earlier excellent team and let people like us continue to feel amazed. Its a pity to experience the best hotel experience of my life turn to worst. Now its like a prison - just waiting to move out as soon as the company arrange an alternative.
