“Best Chinese Cuisine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

We had the most amazing dinner, where we waited for 30 minutes to get a table, and sat on chairs outside watching the world go by with great interest. There were so many interesting and bizarre sights that I don't think you would get to see anywhere else.

We were served an interesting drink, and a delightful mini cupcake while we waited, they called your number in Chinese, so we had no idea when our number had been called, then a young Chinese woman who spoke English noticed our ticket number and said they've already called your number, this entitled us to great apologies, and another complimentary special food when we sat down. It was like a cake again. The food here would definitely be the best Chinese cuisine I have ever had, and we intend going back. The deep fried prawns, with lychees even although they has their shells on we're a delight to enjoy.
We found the restaurant a little hard to find, as the name of the restaurant was not written in English anywhere. I took a photo of the sign so will upload it, so that other people know what they are looking out for.
It was truly a lovely experience, although they were very busy we felt well attended to, and the food was all excellent. The portions were large and well priced, we could not eat all we ordered.

“Excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013 via mobile

Amazing restaurant. Great food. Service. Very popular with locals so expect to wait 30 min for a table. Waiters don't really speak English but the menu has English and pictures so you will be fine. Definitely worth a dining experience!

“A Notch or Two Above”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

There is nothing at this restaurant that you cannot get in literally thousands of other venues in Beijing - they just do it a bit better. The menu is a tome, there is a lot of selection but it is all made very clear with photographs and good English translations. The service is extremely attentive. We ordered one of their justly famous prawn dishes (fried prawns with lychee). I was not a big fan of the way they were fried with the shell still on. The shell clings so you must either learn to love eating fried shell or try to remove the sticky bits. Since we opted for the latter, our plates soon filled with up messily. The waitress came by often offering clean plates. This little touch was very endearing. Try the homestyle tofu - crispy on the outside, custardy on the inside in a succulent sauce. I did not care for the cold spinach in sesame sauce. Roast chicken was plain but made a nice foil for some of the spicy dishes we ordered. The local noodle dish was only 18 RMB per person and mixed for you tableside. Portions are quite large and prices are reasonable. Fresh papaya juice was refreshing. This restaurant is very conveniently located for a visit after a trip to the Silk Market. Take along the characters to show people or just look for the queue outside. Lovely restroom worth a mention as this is so often not the case elsewhere;

“Uncomplicated, fresh, delicious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

I am not moved to write a review very often, working in the industry I'm unapologetically fussy, usually preferring to cook myself or eat in a certain few places I know are good. The comments about this place being hard to get into are justified, We walked past several times at around 7 -8pm as we are staying close- by and there is indeed a long queue. We opted to miss lunch and go ravenous after a day in the city at 5pm, and I was seated straight away. There is only a dispense bar, nowhere to sit and have a drink first /after so choose a different venue for that if you're making a night of it. It was packed by 6pm. The place is enormous but cleverly laid out so somehow feels cosy. The menu is a joy, with large clear pictures and description in English. I eyed the rib of beef and lamb back but was glad we didn't order, saw them go past and they would easily serve 4 or more. I chose three things I love; shrimps, belly pork and aubergine and waited to see what they would do. Shrimps were amazing, firm and sweet. Belly pork was so tender I could separate and cut it with chopsticks served with tangy dates, and the aubergine had a sauce that was rich and oozing but at the same time aromatic and tangy. The kitchen is clearly at ease producing vast quantities of brilliant food quickly and consistently. Service is efficient and courteous, not much English spoken but it doesn't matter as food arrives, dirty plates whisked away and tea topped up with piping hot water without lifting a finger. Highly recommend and would happily go back.

“Good Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

We ate at the outlet located near Yong'anli stt - no problem locating the place by following the directions given by winylake ( Thks winylake )

We did not make a reservation and was lucky to be given a table on arrival at 5.30 pm. Service staff is courteous, with warm smiles.

We ordered 5 dishes ( cannot recall the exact name of each dish ) - a saltish duck with nuts, taro cubes with red dates, fried mushrooms, a green veg with dried scallops and a special tofu dish. The best of the 5 - the saltish duck and the tofu. Paid 192 yuan in total ( no drinks ) for 2 people ( find that 5 dishes for 2 people is a little too much; ideal - 4 dishes ).

I would have love to eat here again before leaving Beijing, but did not manage it due to time constraint.
