“Good "Business Hotel"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

This hotel was booked by my employer and had been recommended as a convenient and high-quality hotel.

My reservation was found quickly and efficiently, even though my wife and I arrived at about 2AM. The front desk personnel were friendly and polite, but their English skills were somewhat limited.

The hotel is quite elegant and very reasonably priced. The room was spacious, clean and well-maintained. I must point out that the bathroom (which was very well appointed) had a picture window to the bed area! A shade could be drawn for privacy, but this was a new experience for me.

Breakfast was included with my room and it was a very pleasant surprise to see the amazing buffet selection. Almost every possible breakfast food was being served. The food and service were excellent and the staff was extremely friendly and courteous. A minor downside was that the quality of the coffee was highly variable - sometimes really good and fresh-brewed, but other times it was obviously an instant coffee (but still not too bad).

The biggest disappointment was when we approached the Tour Desk to see about some sight-seeing, but were welcomed with "NO ENGLISH!" by the girl at the desk. It is such a shame that a really high-end hotel would not be able to staff this essential part of service with someone who would at least be helpful enough to find someone to communicate with us in our language.

I mentioned this problem to the front desk and was told that the Tour Desk is not actually a part of the hotel, but was an independent operation.

The concierge desk was a little better with language, but still needed to call someone over from the front desk to answer questions.

All in all, I can highly recommend this hotel, but bring some sort of Chinese translation device with you!

Room Tip: Try to get a room that does not face the VERY BUSY street in front of the hotel (Anli Lu). There was...

Dear billvfitz, thank you very much for taking your time to post such a detailed and glowing review of our hotel!

We are really delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay here with us and that you are willing to recommend our hotel to others.

The picture windows in our rooms are actually one of the highlights, it does come with a shade if you would like more privacy and the control button is located in the bathroom.

We are also glad that you liked our breakfast, as for the coffee, we insist that only fresh brewed coffee can be served to our guests, we will definitely look into this issue and rectify it.

We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused to you due to the language barrier, all our staffs are currently undergoing rigorous English training and we are certain that very soon, English will not be a problem to any of our front line associates.

Once again, thank you for the wonderful review and we look forward to your next visit!

I stayed in this hotel from 8-15 September 2012. It was an nice place with good food for breakfast buffet. The desserts and breads section is fantastic. However perhaps a suggestion can be made to rotate the dishes offered during breakfast. The rooms were okay but improvement can be made to the toilet door and the wardrobe door. Both of the slidding doors had some problems moving. Oh and if you go there on your birthday they might just surprise you with a card signed by the general manager and a cake.

I stayed in this hotel for 3 days while on a business trip to Beijing. It is situated in the heart of the Olympic village area and there are an abundance of restaurants within walking distance although they are mainly Chinese restaurants.

The hotel itself is good with all the ammenities that a business man would want. The rooms are spacious and clean and have a proper working area with wifi (a bit slow and unstable but acceptable). My room had a large bed with high quality linen and the bathroom is good.

The hotel has a buffet and a la carte restaurant which serves a variety of western and asion foods.

All in all, this is a good hotel. My only issue is that the area is a bit sterile with limited choise is restaurants and nothing much to see as opposed to the more central hotels which have better access to some of the wonderful Baijing sites. On the other hand, access is easy and traffic is minimal.

Room Tip: If you are looking for Western food use the hotel restaurant.

Dear Mr. Grobler, thank you very much for your very detailed review, we really appreciate the effort and time taken to post such a kind review. We are glad that you are happy with our rooms, although the Wifi issue was a bit of a let-down for you. We have since upgraded our wifi speed and hopefully the next time you're here, you will not face the same problems. The location of the hotel has been one of the major concerns for many travelers, a new subway station is currently in build, and the station will be just a block away from the hotel, hopefully this will close the distance between the hotel and the major sight seeing spots of the city. Thank you again for your kind words, and we look forward to welcoming you back again at Marco Polo Parkside Beijing.

You probably are on business if you are at this hotel. It is far away from town and most tourist locations (except the Birds Nest Stadium.)

Beds are VERY hard. The locals seem to like them that way. I had them put some extra padding on mine, but still wasmstiff and sore after 4 nights here.

There are a number of good restaurents behind the hotel to the East. Quan Ju De across the street to the west is also a famous brand in BJ for duck.

Staff is friendly and helpful.

Dear 10RatsRock, thank you for staying with us and we appreciate you taking your time to share your comments with us. We will take note on the comments concerning the mattresses being too hard for some and work out a solution for this. Although the hotel's location might be a little far away from the city centre, there are several points of interest that are nearby, our concierge will be more than happy to assist in the directions, Thank you again for your lovely compliments regarding our associates, it is truly our pleasure to serve each and every one of our guests, and please be sure to let us know the next time you visit our hotel, we will ensure that the bed is comfortable enough for your well-being.

A lovely hotel, with friendly staff. Breakfast buffet had a good selection. I didn't find trouble with English, but I had Chinese help so I didn't have to speak about anything too complicated.

It is quite a walk to subway (15 minutes) and as anywhere in Beijing, difficult to get taxis, especially for short distances.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012

I stayed for 1 week for a business trip. I've chosen this hotel because it was close enough to my customer's office and there were restaurants and shopping centers nearby. I left the hotel with confused feelings.

Good points:
- The rooms are very clean and spacious.
- The hotel looks classy.
- The staff is helpful and very kind as long as you can speak Chinese.
- The price is average/favorable compared to other 5 star hotels around the area.

Bad points:
- The staff can barely speak English.
- In theory, the rooms have broadband internet access via network cables. However, there was no internet in my room for one week. I complained for the first 5 days then just gave up. They were obsessed that the cable was broken and they replaced this network cable FIVE TIMES. I kid you not. I just could not make them understand that the cable was OK but the socket was broken.
- As I was on a business trip, I needed to access my mails and do some work in my room. Since there was no internet in the room, I needed to access the network over the WiFi from the lobby. But there are no desks that you can use in the lobby. You need to put the notebook on your lap and work accordingly which became tiring very fast.
- The restaurant staff can only speak 5 words of English. "Good + morning + sir + coffee + tea". That's it. One morning, there was no cup on my table. I tried to ask for a cup for 5 minutes, two waitresses couldn't understand what I wanted. I say "cup", they reply "coffee?". In the end, I said "yes coffee", they brought the coffee, realized there is no cup, so they brought the cup. How can a 5 star international hotel not employ a proper English speaking personal is beyond me.
- In the morning there are very big queues for taxis. And the hotel staff will favor Chinese guys over foreigners. One morning a Chinese dude spoke to the organizer of the taxis and took our taxi literally 10 meters away from us, despite the fact we started shouting. At that moment, the organizer decided that he didn't speak and understand English. We had to wait another 10 minutes to get a taxi.

As a conclusion, the hotel has good facilities, the beds are comfortable, the A/C works well and the rooms are clean. The biggest problem is the staff. They are extremely polite and kind if there are no problems. But if you have any issues, forget about a solution. I don't think that they are incompetent. Solving the issues that I mentioned above wouldn't take too much of an effort. It's just, they don't care.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which is located in a non-smoking level.

Dear Yinliang, thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to review us. We are located in the heart of the Asian-Olympic Business District, which is close to the Olympic venues and China National Convention Center. There are various ways to travel to the city centre, which includes the Line 5 Subway Station (10 minutes walk from the hotel), bus, and taxi. Typically it takes around 40 minutes drive (off peak hours) or 1 hr drive (peak hours) to travel to the city centre. Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you back again in Beijing very soon.
