“3 Night Stay Nov 2013”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013 via mobile

Stayed at Raffles for 3 nights at the end of bird watching tour of China, excellent to finish with a bit of luxury. The hotel and staff were wonderful and we would recommend staying here. We have paid much more to stay in other hotels across the world, so we considered our stay good value. The staff were very helpful and the concierge service was excellent. We enjoyed our evenings in the Writers Bar, reading the papers and generally unwinding in a quite and relaxed atmosphere. We stayed in a business room which was spacious and comfortable. The hotel is an excellent location for seeing the major sites. We could have not asked for a better stay.

We recently (November 2013) spent three nights in a Raffles Landmark Suite and cannot convey our absolute delight with this hotel enough. Even prior to check in we were greeted like royalty at the hotel entrance. Flying from Tampa via Chicago to Beijing (even business class) was very exhausting (flight delays in Chicago) so when we were checked into the hotel in-suite it was a welcome relief, and the two young ladies could not have been more delightful. Having been in a fairly lengthy correspondence by E-mail with the concierge in arranging various aspects of this part of our China / Japan trip I knew in advance how efficient the staff were. The reality was that they were even better than expected.

The rooms were very well appointed and kept very clean. Having two separate toilets was a distinct plus and those who visit will know what I mean when I say the remote control lavatory was out of this world, and a total surprise! I intend to have them fitted at our homes!

The location could not be better being within walking distance of Tian' Anmen square. Having a local guide by "Tours by Locals" helped enormously in getting to the other sights. We did have a problem one night when the local taxi driver (despite I am sure excellent directions from the concierge) could not find the restaurant (The Temple Restaurant) we wanted to dine at and ended up taking us back to the hotel via what appeared to be a rather disreputable part of Beijing. The concierge was absolutely mortified and the incident even prompted an apology from the manager even though it was not their fault.

Having arrived very late and tired we missed our dinner reservation at the Writer's Bar on the first night. Breakfast was a feast and we took full advantage of the extensive buffet not being sure of what would be on offer for lunch. As it turned out this was a good idea as can be seen from what was on the menu at one of the restaurants for lunch (see photos). As I explained we had also missed a reservation at The Temple Restaurant so we once again tried to eat at the Writer's Bar but unfortunately it was closed for a private function so we ended up dinning in East 33 which was also where breakfast was served. Again the food and service were all that was expected. The one evening we did dine out the concierge arranged for a car which not only took us to the restaurant but also waited and brought back to the hotel all at a very very reasonable rate. Taxis and cars are very cheap we found, and to make our stay even better we had a complimentary car to the airport when we left.

All in all our stay at the hotel could not have been better now if only they can do something about the smog!!

Room Tip: Go for the Landmark Suite it is excellent value for the money!

We spent 3 nights at Raffles in two rooms. My elderly parents-in-law were really well cared for by Raffles. They lent us a wheelchair which enabled my father in law to see much more of Beijing than we were expecting he would see. The business rooms are large and well designed for a couple travelling with a child. We had two double beds and the separate living room is great. The staff are all very well trained and have a 'can do' attitude. The atmosphere at the reception/concierge area is very calm and welcoming. The breakfast is also very good. I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The business rooms are lovely, although it is a little confusing finding your way to them. Perhaps s...

We stayed for 3 nights. The hotel location is fabulous for Forbidden City & Tiananmen Square. Easy to walk around this area. The staff at hotel were great, easy check in. Stayed in a Club floor room and enjoyed enough food at cocktail time to not need dinner! Afternoon tea also good. The buffet breakfast at the restaurant downstairs was excellent with different choices every morning. A wide range of Western & Asian food of excellent quality. Our room was large with a living room area separated from the bedroom. Well appointed bathroom.
The only complaint was the room was very HOT, the staff explained that they could not control the temperature in the hotel as it was controlled by the hotel next door (!!!) As a guest you are unable to control the room temperature and it was so hot that it was uncomfortable sleeping like this. What a shame for a 5* hotel. On the last night after complaining the kind staff brought 2 portable air con units into our room which did reduce the temperature to a cool level so we could sleep comfortably.

Room Tip: Get a Club room.

Dear Guest,

First, I would like to express my personal gratitude for the time you have taken to share your thoughts with us on TripAdvisor and on behalf of my entire team at Raffles Beijing Hotel I would like to express my sincere appreciation for you staying with us.

We have noted your positive comments reading our Club Floor as well as our breakfast buffet. We will share your comments with our Club Floor colleagues, the Executive Chef and the service team at Easy 33 and we are certain that positive remarks such as yours will encourage all of them to even further improve their services.

On the other hand, we were disappointed to learn about the challenges you experienced with your room temperature. The room temperature control is indeed centralized however, adjustments can be made. Spent a week at Raffles on Business in Beijing. From the moment ou check n nothing s too much trouble or the staff at all levels. The staff knew who we were and were so helpful and he discreet at all times. Our room on 7t floor was quiet and so well laid out. Doing business it is vital to feel rested and the bed was luxurious. Housekeeping staff helpful and nothing was too much to ask.
The location in the heart of both the business and shopping districts is a fundamental success. Sightseeing in our spare time was easy as close to the hutongs, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Museums, Chairman Mao Mausoleum and of course Wangfujing Street - amazing modern and traditional shopping and eating - Peking Duck Restaurant! Walked everywhere. Returning to Beijing in February - and returning to Raffles.

All in all a good experience - the staff/concierge were always ready to help. And after a few days we were introduced the famous ambassador John - which always were up for a friendly chat or some good advice of sights and places to visit.

The drinks in the Writers bar were excellent - and the breakfast at the buffet a never ending experience.

Our room were located in the newer part of the hotel, it was quiet. spacious and we were looked well after in terms of housekeeping. The room was clean and smelled clean.

The biggest down part of the stay must be when a president decided to pay Raffles a half week long visit. So passing in and out of the hotel was worse than going through security check at an airport. We were also not allowed to be present in common areas if the president were to come trough. We booked and paid to use all the facilities of the hotel - not half of them.

Location of the hotel is amazing - you have the underground station almost just outside the hotel and a few minutes walk from The forbidden City.

Room Tip: New part of the hotel is quiet and clean

Dear Guest,

We would like to thank you for having chosen Raffles Beijing Hotel as your preferred accommodation in Beijing as well as for your feedback following your recent stay. We very much appreciate and value the time you have taken to share your experience with us on TripAdvisor.

Here at Raffles we strive for being an “oasis for the well-travelled”. Our goal is creating emotional luxury by offering thoughtful, welcoming, graceful and charming service. Certainly, location, the condition of facilities and food quality are very important to our guests but we also believe that in the end it is the personal touches that make the difference. Therefore, we were delighted to learn that you enjoyed and were wowed by our personalized services. We have noted your positive remarks regarding our Raffles Ambassador Mr. John Spooner and will certainly share those with John and his team.

On the other hand, we were certainly disappointed to read about the inconvenience you experienced during the head-of-state visit. In these case security measures imposed on hotels by the Chinese government are indeed quite drastic.

Once again, thank you very much for staying with us and we are delighted that the increased security checks have not negatively influenced your overall very positive impression of Raffles Beijing.

Warm wishes,

Stayed for six days, and had a great time. The staff could not be moe pleasant and helpful, and the room was large and vet comfortable with silent and very discreet heating. Bed was excellent, the only complaint is they forgot to turn down the covers one night, which is an indication of how good e service was, not that I minded at all.

Room Tip: A room in the new part at the back, very quiet and large.
