“Crowded tourist place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2014

Lotus Lane is one of the main attraction for tourists (mainly chinese) in Beijing. A large number of restaurants and bars are located along the lake.
But be careful: Some of the restaurants offer food of mediocre quality, the service is sometimes very slow and the invoices not correct.

“Shopping & Dining on the Lake”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Fun area full of small shops and restaurants surrounding a beautiful lake. Full of color, people, food, and great atmosphere. We visited at night which was beautiful with the colorful lights and lanterns reflecting on the water. It was very busy and fun. A lot of small restaurants to choose from and many shops to find pretty much any souveigneer you could ask for. Be ready to haggle for the best prices.

“Hou Hai Lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

This lake is surrounded by bars and restaurants, most bars have their own live music in the evening, their is one place where two lakes are connected and you can pass this by a small bridge, near this bridge there are many bars with a roof seating, in the summer this is a great place to overview the people in the street and the small boats in the lake, its a lot of fun!

“Starbucks by the lake.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

A bit too cookie cutter for me. Great views form the cafes. Way overpriced.

“Buffalo Club is the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2006

Day or night, Beijing's cool Lotus Lane is buzzing. A string of cafes, bars, restaurants and funky shops along a canal, it's got atmosphere and al fresco, cool and cocktails. This really surprised me about Beijing.
My favourite bar in the strip was the Buffalo Club, a three level, intimate, retro French place with great live jazz and a down-to-earth hipness in the crowd that would be at home in Melbourne, New York or Paris. Great Californian wine by the glass.
There are rooftop bars where you see young Jingers basking in the afternoon sun (we were there in the final days of Fall for some unseasonal warmth) and at night you can sit along the canal if it's warm or cozy up indoors.
Some of the places are halls of the doof-doof, others a little kareoke... just wander till you find something that suits your taste and mood.
One hint. There is the main strip where most taxis from central Beijing will drop you off, (Buffalo is here), then there is another bit to it.
It's broken by the canal (I think.) But if you venture into the sidestreets of the interesting and perfectly safe adjoining hutong and keep heading along, you will find the rest of the action.
Some great shopping along here too.
