“Not a highlight of the city”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

Wangfujing street seems to get a lot of attention and write up in guide books ect as i guess it does have a concentration of shops/dept. stores ect. But really has no character and is well, lack lustre in a city that is really full of character if you look slightly outside the box. If you travel often there is nothing on this street that you won't find in many big cities including the likes of hong kong/singpore ect. It has mostly mainstream/designer brands that are available the world over.So my point is if you are looking for something unique it won't be found here. Overall lacks atmosphere. But still should always take a review as someone's personal view and still check it out for yourself. Line 1 or 5 on subway will get you there quickly and cheaply.

If wanting cool, hip, unique shopping head to Dongcheng district.

“Why bother?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

Really - there is no point going to Wangfujing. It is like Oxford Street or any other shopping thoroughfare, but bleaker.

“Great shopping street but the side food street is the highlight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

This is a great westernised shopping street with big stores mainly full of designer brands from western countries and from China. It's a wide pedestrianised street so you can avoid the hustle and bustle of the Beijing traffic. It's not the place to go for cheap stuff, it's more designer brands. The highlight of this shopping street from a tourist point of view though is the food street which is located in a street that runs off this road. You need to watch for this side street as you walk down the road, if you are coming from the south (Wangfujing subway station), this street is on the left. If you are walking from the north, you need to look for this street on the right. It is usually bustling with people and there are a lot of smells, steam from food. A lot of food is on skewers and it's all sorts of unusual food including scorpions. I didn't dare risk eating any of the food though because I was a bit apprehensive about trying out the various delicacies, plus I was a bit dubious about the food hygiene in the street, but nevertheless it is a great sight.

“Good shopping and centralized area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Convenient location for shopping area. A lot of shopping malls and choices for travellers and family members, and there are local and foreign brands, and book stores.

“Take a stroll, even if you have nothing to buy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

The one-kilometer street can be done walking pretty fast. There is a building selling children's things. I bought some Chinese DVDs for my kids who are learning Mandarin as a second language. There are Chinese books which are reasonably priced.

There is a food street where you can eat live insects. Definitely not for the faint-hearted!
