We decided to try Austen's for dinner after seeing the amazing reviews on TripAdvisor. We were not disappointed.
The lovely lady owner walked us through their selection of hand-made dishes, from which we ordered the mushroom soup, carbonara, rosemary lamb and beef fillet. Everything was perfect, and we particularly enjoyed the black pepper sauce -it went nicely with the medium-bodied Italian red that she recommended. We topped off the meal with panna cotta, lava cake and hot chocolate, which were just as divine.
We finished dinner in about an hour and a half, but continued to sit there chatting with the owners long after they'd closed. It was an unforgettable experience, especially in a city like Beijing where encounters are ephemeral and acquaintances impossibly fleeting. The cosy setting, warm food, and sincere hospitality coalesced seamlessly to make this one of our best nights in the city.
A highly recommended restaurant for unpretentious food that thrives on quality, brought to you by people who really love (and know) what they're doing.
