“An Important Landmark”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2014

This is the location where Chairman Mao declared the People's Republic Of China into being in 1949 and a large picture of him is located just below where he stood. The gate is an impressive structure overlooking the square which you pass through on your way to the Forbidden City. Well worth a look and a definate Beijing photo stop.. The Chinese guards are also impressive

“Gate to the Forbidden City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2014

The Gate of Heavenly peace is simply and in that simplicity is the greatness. It is the entrance to the Forbidden City which is much more majestic than the gate, but day or night the gate is an impressive site. The architecture is beautiful and well maintained. This is the symbol of Beijing most foreigners connect with and even the locals flock to it for a view of the stoic Mao. Nearby is Tian'an Men square where Mao is on display and surrounding the area are various government buildings which may explain the lack of picture taking, but I was not forbidden from shooting anything at anytime. Heavy traffic day or night, but underground walkways allow you access to the entire area.

“The beautiful architecture took me back in time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

There were a few Chinese Dynasties that reigned here in the Forbidden City. Moreover, learning about some of the events that took place throughout its history was wonderful. I loved the architectural layout where buildings were built behind each other. What impressed me the most was how beautiful the designs of these builds were. The Chinese culture really took pride in their architecture. Climbing up and down the stairs got to me a bit as I never knew (or forgot) the true purpose behind the design of these stairs found within each section. Expect to see more Chinese tourists, who visited in large groups, that any other culture. It took me back in time overall and I enjoyed my visit.

“beautiful place to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2014

When you are in Tianamen you will also be able to see this attraction, in particular to go to the Forbidden city.
It is always very crowded, because many people visit Forbidden City all times of the year.
Even by night it is nice to pass by here and take some picture.
You have always to remember that you are in front to a very important piece of history.

“A definite place to visit when in Beijing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014

A fine attraction in Beijing. The Gate of Heavenly Peace is the gateway to the Forbidden City. It was amazing seeing soldiers there standing their guard. It was something new to me being new to Beijing. The art floor scriptures were beautifully crafted. The color that was being used, red, says so much about the infrastructure's history. I also liked how the light highlighted the details at night. i also still can't believe that the guards could be so dedicated with the jobs.
