“Five star service from China DIY Travel - Excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Thanks to China DIY Travel's Helen who made it possible to book train tickets on our recent trip. The service Helen provides is perfect. Without Helen we would have had to resort to booking through an Aussie travel booker and would have paid more than double for each ticket.

We contacted Helen about 3 months out from out trip and she provided us with booking sheets which include the train destinations, and 3 preferences for either time or standard ( hard /soft sleeper) and our name and passport number. Helen's service uses the CBA currency converter and adds a single $10 per ticket per person booking fee which is all paid via Pay Pal (no passport copies supplied by us - just our passport number).

20 days out from travel we received confirmation from Helen of our tickets with a request for payment via Pay Pal. On payment we received a full 'how to' set of documents. How to navigate the station, how to read your ticket, how to collect you ticket (written in chinese for the ticket station staff), how to deal with problems and how to get to the station (chinese instructions for a taxi driver). All were most helpful and current.

We purchased tickets for a bullet train from Shanghai to Beijing, and overnight sleeper tickets for travel from Beijing to Xi'an and Xi'an to Chengdu. Helen's suggestion of collecting all of the tickets in Beijing was fantastic (no extra paid at the station to do this even though I thought there was a fee). Helen's advice on navigating each station was also spot on. Yes Xi'an station is a 3 ringed circus but we managed it (no english words or numbers on most electronic display boards). We were helped by fellow passengers who either spoke or didn't speak English to ensure we arrived at the correct waiting room for our train. Having a couple of blonde children helped no doubt as many locals wanted to speak with them and try out their English skills.

A big thank you goes to Helen from my family, without your assistance our train travels may not have been such a pleasurable and memorable adventure.

“Excellent, helpful, and necessary!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

China travel is extremely challenging for independent travelers, even experienced ones. We had a challenging ticket to book from Huangshan to Shanghai, and it needed to be booked while we were on our flight. She helped me find the best odds for a four-person sleeper and successfully booked. We recommend them very highly. For anybody wanting to travel through China independently, using China DIY is a must!

“Easy and safe booking!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

It´s no longer hard to book train tickets in China! Most of the guide books who describe the difficult booking procedures are now out of date.

Thanks to Helen at DIY and her husband (the later one seems to be in the background) ticket booking is very conveniant. We just sent our request to them and received an e-ticket that we easily transferred to real tickets. They charge 10 AUS dollars per ticket for the booking, well worth spent money. We booked both high-speed train from Xián to Beijing and soft sleeper train from Beijing to Xián.

“First class service! Highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

I am a cautious online booker but I am so glad that we used China DIY Travel. We were travelling to a few locations around china by train so I wanted all the train tickets confirmed in advance of our trip. I emailed the details and always got immediate responses. the small fee is completely worth the service. All our tickets were booked to our requests. Helen even sent detailed instructions about reading the train tickets, instructions to give the taxi driver (this was invaluable for example in Beijing where there are several train stations) and collection instructions to hand in at the ticket counter at the station. It took all the stress out of worrying about our travel plans. Only a very small number of staff in train stations speak english. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company. easy payment option with paypal.

“Want to use Chinese Rail & don't speak Mandarin? Use China DIY Travel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

I am new to travelling in China, and without a knowledge of the language, I was intimidated by booking rail travel with agencies with lots and lots of add-on fees. DIY travel charges a reasonable fee per ticket, sends e-tickets and perfect instructions via email. They are very helpful and prompt with questions. Excellent service and a reasonable price!
