Try the baileys hot chocolate and any of the coffees. They're delicious! The atmosphere is very relaxing and cosy with easy listening music

“Great place to watch the world go by”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

I came across this cafe when I was looking for some place quiet to escape from the noise and crowds of Nanluoguxiang. This was the perfect place to do so. Laid back and relaxed, I sat down for a while, had a drink, ate their bacon spaghetti and surfed the net using their wifi. Entering this place felt like you were not in Nanluoguxiang at all. The staff there do not speak very much English so be very clear with your orders. I wanted to order orange juice and they didn't know what it was. Orders also took a long time to arrive. Despite that, the food and drinks delivered were actually of high quality.

“a wonderful escape from the hectic hutong streets”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

I thoroughly enjoyed Sandglass Cafe. It was a definite highlight of my trip to Beijing. I found Sandglass Cafe to have, by far, the best coffee in my two week trip. Staff were friendly polite and modest (traits which can be hard to come by sometimes). Wonderfully cosy and relaxed atmosphere. Grab a warm drink, curl up and watch the people on the Hutong streets outside rush by.

Highly recommend this cafe, I will be sure to visit again if/when I return to Beijing.

“cosy BUT ... I don't want to go anymore to that place for drink a cocktail!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

After some recommendation from a friend who know Beijing very well we went to that bar. The area was nice and relaxing. We were 4 people. We are visiting Beijing from 4 days and after a busy walking day we just want take cocktail before dinner.

The interior is full of little antiques falling to pieces. But it's got that old Beijing feel and the coffee's pretty good. Small and cozy place, full of charm.

Firstly we asked the waitress many times about the different ingredients of the cocktails. Her english was not good, and she asked us to come at the bar for show us the different ingredients. After that we ordered four differents cocktails, also some peanuts and french fries. During the so long waiting time we started to play a card game very quiet but after few minutes the waitress asked us to stop. "It's not allowed to play cards on that place".
We get cocktails one by one with at least ten minutes between each cocktail. Finally we started to drink and it was just discusting. Full of alcool but not tasty. The headache came very fast after that. French fries had a tast of fish. All peanuts were too salty and not roasted.

The bill was overpricing compared to what we had. We asked to keep the bill and the waitress wrote everything by hand on small torn cardboard.

Even, on that place, if you need to go to bathroom they will show you the public bathroom outside, on the street with no toilet paper and no soap...
