“Wonder Deserved”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

Always wanted to visit the Great Wall, managed to do it in Sept 2012, Very thing I heard and read about this place was true to every dots and dashes. Joined a local tour from Beijing reached there we were given the option to walk up or take the cable car. I opted for the cable car. Spent more than an hour on the wall. The scenery was breath-taking.

“Better than expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

Very few tourists, amazing experience, would do it again and again. Have a beer up there but don't get ripped off. The guy tried to charge 45 yuan for 1 can. We bought 3 for 45 yuan but you can probably bargain down a bit more...

“Frosty 5 degrees, but who cares, it's stunning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

We felt like arctic explorers climbing this section of the Great Wall at Mutianyu early on a January day. There was no crowd on the wall that icy cold morning. In fact, at times there was no one else in view at all. Just the two of us in isolated splendour with the panoramic views of this world wonder in the crisp winter air. Does it get any better than that?

True to what we were told, tourists were lighter on this section of wall. We enjoyed the scenery on the drive up, as well as the comfortable and easy gondola ride up to the wall itself.

Stop to see the camel tender at the bottom. It was a moment of delight to talk with him after walking the wall.

If you go in winter, wear thermals and heavy winter outer gear with hiking boots. But don't be afraid. It will be worth it. You'll see.

“Great Wall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

It had snowed several days before we got to Beijing and the roads to the Great Wall were closed. Luckily, on the 3rd day of our visit we hired a driver (thru the hotel) to take us to the Great Wall at Mutianyu. You have to buy a ticket to take the cable car up the mountain but the view was spectacular. It was still very icy on the Wall but we got to see the vastness of it and enjoy the historical signaificance. I would probably try to view it in the Spring or Fall next time so I can walk more of it. What surprised me the most was the street vendors at the bottom of the mountain where you purchase the cable car ticket....I wasn't expecting that.

“The Great Wall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

We went in the middle of winter. We had hired a car through our hotel, so we had someone who was familiar with the area. This was amazing! It wasn't crowded (during the week on January 2). It was very well maintained. We took the cable car to the top of the mountain. From there you can see for miles all around. This was a great experience!

The only issue I want to bring up is that it was cold and icy. There were places where we decided to take the easy way out and slide around on our butts. So in the middle of winter, its good to be careful. This was only a problem when you got about a 1/2 mile from the cable car area.
