This hotel is literally one building away from its sister hotel (Sunworld Dynasty Beijing) but less expensive. Location is excellent. Enjoyable walk to Forbidden City (20-25 min), a little further away to Tiananmen Square, National Museum of China, and Qianmen Street. Close to Wangfujing (7-9 min). Close to Metro Line 5 station Dengshikou (exit D) - when you stand with the hotel to your back, turn right and walk to the end of the street, turn right and walk another 150m.
Stayed here for 7 nights. It is a basic hotel with no frills. There are two restaurants in the hotel, we ate at the Cafe one night and ordered off the menu. It was good, but a little expensive (which is normal for a hotel). Bed is comfortable, decent english spoken at the front desk, and TV has a couple of english channels. Wifi is free and weak in the evening as more people came online.
A few issues with this hotel:
1. Requested a non-smoking room which we did get, but the floor was not a designated non-smoking floor. As such, we could smell the smoke in the hall and it would often seep into our room. At times it was very strong.
2. It was chilly in our room. I read some reviews saying the aircon was not controlled in the room and that the controls were for show only. Same things applies to the heating. We could not get any heat in our room.
3. Noise. Ok, this is mostly random based on who happens to be your neighbors. Over the course of a week, we had a lot of different neighbors who were very loud. A lot of tour groups tend to book this hotel. This could explain why so many people know each other and will call out to each other down the hall. The same people would also slam their doors rather than them close gently (frustrating at 2 am). We even had to open our door one time to politely "shhhh" some people who were too loud. Another factor to the noise were the thin walls and our room configuration. Avoid room 736 or any room ending with -36 assuming all floors are the same. The room door and head of the bed sit on the same wall amplifying the noise in the hall.
Hope these tips/feedback helps!
