I had a colleague book this hotel for me since he lives in Beijing and knows what I typically expect in a hotel, but after staying at The Four Seasons Shanghai the week before, this was not what I was looking for to relax. It's about a 30 min walk to the Forbidden City or theres a subway which is about a half mile down Wangfujing Rd, a very popular shopping and eating strip. Our room had a great view of the Cathedral next door, although every night there were singers and dancers that could be heard even with the windows closed that at first was cute/surreal, but became a little annoying after 3 hours. Luckily they ended around 9pm every night. The room was supposedly non-smoking, but there was an ashtray in our room and it smelled of old smoke in the entire hotel. The bathroom has a big glass window presumably to watch tv from the bath tub, but it could be uncomfortable with only blinds to hide the view if you were with a family. I tried ordering snacks one night and had to give up because the kitchen could not undertsand what I was saying eventhough they seemed to speak ok English. I would probably splurge next time to stay in a international chain I am more familiar with if I were to return.
