“Not my favourite Peninsula!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

I usually enjoy a stay at a Peninsula, I can't say it applied this time - the Peninsula Beijing is
more like an expensive shopping centre! The front of the hotel is an extremely noisy, busy
main road 24/7, after a sleepless night I asked to be moved and although the other side had
a far from attractive view, it was quiet! The Club Floor had extremely helpful staff but the food
was disappointing and sparse...possibly why the place was always nearly deserted. It is very
well sited to get to Tian'amen and the Forbidden City but gosh the smog!!

Room Tip: I'd advise not to have a room facing the road if you can't sleep through noise.

I was in Beijing in October for a reunion event at Peking University and I stayed at the Peninsula Beijing (王府半岛酒店). The hotel is located in a quiet alley (胡同) of Wangfujing shopping district。 It's close to Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City. The service was excellent. I really liked the fitness room and the swimming pool. The breakfast menu included both traditional Chinese and western. my only complain is that I had to ask for coffee and the server was slow.
Overall I had a very good stay and will definitely stay there again next time i'm in Beijing.

Room Tip: Tell your taxi driver the hotel's old Chinese name "wangfu hotel" as it was locally k...

This hotel is very centrally located has all the comforts of home. It is walking distance to all of the best sights in the city. It is across the street from the subway (the best way to travel in Beijing). The rooms are beautifully appointed with all of the comforts of home. The breakfast buffet is the best in the city and the room service is good and fast. The concierges were quite accommodating, they gave great options at all price levels. I've stayed here a few times and make this my go to hotel everytime I'm in Beijing!

This was our first time in China so we had to be very careful about our hotel choices. We were very anxious and wanted to be able to have absolutely no problems with our Beijing hotel, which would be our first 8 days in the country. This hotel is lovely. The staff is absolutely professional and wonderfully solicitous in every way. We booked a hotel car to pick us up at the airport - although we had to look around carefully, we did eventually locate the greeter outside the crowded main exit - and the ride was comfortable and smooth. We were graciously escorted directly to our suite for checkin where it was done seamlessly. There was a tray of hot chocolate, cookies and fruit with two welcoming notes from management. The suite was on two levels - upstairs was the bedroom, the biggest king size bed we ever slept in, a marble two sink bath with a shower and tub, and fully equipped desk.

When we woke up early enough, we went to the exec lounge for complimentary buffet breakfast to start the day of sight seeing. The staff there was both professional and friendly. We saw everything we planned on visiting and when we returned to the room mid afternoon to freshen up before dinner, the room was always already made up. The housekeepers were very efficient and every day we received fresh fruit and cookies. We ate at both restaurants and had good meals. The beautiful Chinese restaurant in the 2nd lower level was our favorite because it was so incredibly designed.

We booked a return hotel car back to the airport. The hotel cars are very expensive compared to the city taxis but completely worth the expense - clean, comfortable BMW sedans and excellent drivers. The Peninsula Beijing was worth every USD we spent and we would return again and spend a substantial amount more. Our long term stay package was honored and all adjustments made according to our reservation. The spa is simply amazing. I received a complimentary facial and it was completely complimentary - I signed a "zero" cost tab and it did not register on our final room bill. Everything was as expected and we were happy with our stay. We were worried the rest of our China trip would not measure up to the Pen but we were lucky because all started well, went well and ended well.

Room Tip: The suite we had was quiet and we heard absolutely no noise even though we faced the front of the ho...

This hotel is located very centrally and is a great home base for Beijing. We loved the hotel - rooms are nice, beds are comfortable, service is good.

The 2 things we weren't so pleased with are as follows:
- The concierges steered us into restaurants / attractions that clearly were padding their pockets and were inferior to other options.
- The breakfast buffet is very expensive and is quiet sparse and picked over.

Very happy with our three day stay at this hotel. Good welcome on arrival, luggage taken care of, staff very helpful. Upgraded to a suite. Would recommend it to anyone wanting a luxury hotel in Beijing.

The hotel was a comfortable first stop on our China visit. It is in central Beijing, and I would say of about the same quality as a Hyatt Regency in the U.S. They did not have our request for a king bed for some reason, but our local guide was able to take care of the negotiations and get us one.

The restaurant had a good buffet at dinner time for $50 - wine extra - and an OK breakfast buffet. There are two levels of restaurant open for breakfast, so if you go and the top level is full, the lower level has the same selection.

Room Tip: Rooms that do not face the front of the hotel are probably quieter. Be sure to stress to travel agen...
