“Very Lovely Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

The only reason why I did not give this 5 stars is that we stayed in Peninsula in Shanghai, and it made the Beijing Peninsula look tired. We had a huge suite, overlooking an alley. Not a big thing, the other room they offered us was a two floor suite, which we found a little scary, the stairs looked a little steep. We are not youngsters. We had access to the concierge floor, which was very nice. They had really great snacks and the staff, as everywhere in the hotel, was great. The location is very near a big pedestrian mall, which was helpful. We had wanted to take a look at the Opposite House, which we heard is something special, but ran out of time. This hotel just needs a little perking up.

Just checked into what is meant to be a class hotel. I was shocked at the service from entry to room. They really need some simple training. The front desk was totally not interested. Felt like we were a problem and should not have come here. At this rate this great location will be wasted. Not sure the general manager is at all interested !!

Shame as I only booked here on a recommendation. Not sure I will be passing that on.

This is a fine hotel with high standards that classify the property as world-class. The rooms are large and well-equiped and the buffet breakfast impressive. The location is also very good so any traveler should be satisfied with this choice of accommodation in Beijing. Recommended.

Peninsula was always my favourite hotel in the world, however, not to the one in Beijing.

Room were small and dirty even I was stayed in a Club Deluxe Room. I could find mold in the bathroom and carpet and all the furnitures were old and dated. I was told this hotel was just a reform hotel from an old Palace hotel. Therefore, it was not built for Peninsula standard.

Club Lounge facility was included in my stay but I was not impressed either. Very bad breakfast was served there. Their afternoon tea and cocktail were normal, but food and drinks were not 5* again. Tea was served in a cup , not a pot with tea leaves, only from tea bags.

I tried the breakfast at the restaurant downstairs which was a bit better with more choices, but I would say it is just a 3 to 4 * hotel breakfast range.

The Chinese restaurant in the hotel was nicely decorated and served with decent Cantonese dim sum, but quite costly.

Swimming pool was quite nice, but no sauna or jaccuzi came with it. You could only use the sauna if you pay for the spa.

The lobby looked nice though with few nice designers brand boutiques. It is in a nice location for tourists, but not for business.

I strongly not recommend this hotel if you love the true Peninsula!

Amazing entance lobby is outstanding service great, but feel the room was average nothing special compared to other cheaper hotels we have stayed! Feel its a little dated and you can get alot more for your money! However breakfast was amazing!

Room Tip: Pictures are a little retouched to what they look like in real life!!
