“Great service, top hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

A business stay in Beijing. This was a new part of town for me. Very nicely presented and appointed and the bill wasn't too bad either. Nice and close to things you might want to do on foot. We were there in November 2011 and the air quality at the time was particularly bad, so staying close to the hotel (or in it) was easiest - and pleasant.

“pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

this hotel is high on service: staff friendly and helpful at every turn. We stayed on the club floor which made up for the somewhat small room which was well appointed. They offered breakfast in the club lounge as well as snacks and drinks during the day and evening which is a plus given the price of a glass of wine in China with the high tax. The location is good in that you can walk to the Forbidden City within 10-15 minutes.

“Luxury hotel in convenient location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We stayed here for 8 nights having booked an excellent flight/hotel deal. We chose it based on brand and location. Location was excellent easy to walk to the main shopping area at Wangfujing St as well as the Forbidden City. We had also chosen it due to its proximity to a subway stop, we had anticipated this would be Wangfujing but it was actually closer to Dengshikou and we used that extensively.

We had room 518 which was a reasonable sized room with a comfortable super king bed and large flat screen tv. The view was out the back of the property but there was plenty of natural daylight. The bathroom was fine but would benefit from an upgrade. The complimentary in-room wifi was very useful although at times slow, however that may also have been due to the congress taking place. Other reviews have commented on the useful in-room sensor that tells you the outside temperature and humidity and we also found this useful.

We found the front desk, concierge and doormen were all very helpful and all spoke good English. There were no difficulties communicating whatsoever.

We had 1 breakfast in the hotel. There was a large queue to be seated and it seemed there was a lack of waiting staff that day. The buffet itself was as expected (circa 200 RMB each). We also had 1 meal in Huang Tang and this was delicious in a beautiful setting with excellent service.

Finally - although having never experienced any other Peninsula Hotel before our travels have included a number of other luxury properties in the Far East in the past few years We found this hotel to be excellent and whilst a few minor improvements could be made we saw nothing that warranted some of the other negative Trip Advisor reviews.

“Decent hotel but not worthy of the Peninsula brand”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

This hotel is nice and upscale but in my opinion it fell short of what a hotel should be like in this category. Overall, the decor is dated and the rooms, especially the bathrooms, need to be renovated. The service is okay, not great. If I come back to Beijing in the future, I would definitely pick a better hotel. We stayed here for 3 nights.
Pros: nice buffet breakfast, good location, comfortable bed
Cons: decor, very average staff, chilly uncomfortable lobby

“Superb hotel in fantastic location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012 via mobile

Stayed here for two nights before joining a cruise. Fantastic Hotel with excellent restaurants. Beautiful reception area with a great shopping arcade. Within easy walking distance of the Forbidden City and Many other places if interest. Hotel were great in organising a private tour to the Great Wall of China which was the highlight of our trip to Bejing
