“Not a five star experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2012

The hotel was billed as a luxury five star elegant hotel. When I hear this I expect that all my wants and needs will be immediately be attended to...sadly they weren't. I stayed here for 4 nights. I was on the concierge level on the 13th floor, the room was very avererge as was the service. The staffed was either disinterested, inefficient or worse yet...rude, I haven't decided which. An example was one afternoon my son wanted to order a salad while I was having tea in the lounge, when it was delivered by room service, they refused to allow it, saying "the smell of the food might offend other people"...it was a SALAD (and we were the only ones in the room!). The exception to the poor service was the head concierge, Mary, who was lovely and went out of her way to see that everything was ok.

Another problem is at the front door...it is virtually impossible for them to get a taxi. We waited on average 20 to 30 minutes. One more point about the rooms... The AC is not very strong...I requested for someone to come look at it...I'm still waiting!

All and all no one at this hotel seemed to care wether I was enjoying my stay or not...next time I'll stay at a Marriott if I want this kind of impersonal service!

Room Tip: People are allowed to smoke in their rooms...it took 3 tries to find a room that didn't smell!

Have stayed at the Peninsula three times now on an annual basis for business. Rooms and facilities are very good and, being in the Wanfujing district, close to lots of shopping opportunities. Excellent local food directly across the road, although the food in the hotel's restaurants is also very good. Entirely consistent with what one would expect from the Peninsula brand.

We had great stay at The Peninsula. It is in a central location and perfect for sight seeing. Nice restaurants.

Stayed here with my son in June 2012. This is a great hotel that serves excellent breakfast. The rooms are in good shape, although a bit on the small side. The service is impeccable although some staff at the reception have a mediocre command of English. The pool is nice and the service and amenities are good.

Would definitely stay here again.

Great hotel, staff so friendly wonderful big rooms. Only draw back shower is in the bath. Fabulous breakfast although some mornings long line to get into breakfast suggest you allow more time for breakfast

From arrival until departure the service was excellent. The location could not be better.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

I have stayed here several times, sometimes alone on business, sometimes with the wife, sometimes the whole family.

The location is good. There is no such thing as a hotel close to everything in Beijing, but this one is well located. Very convenient to the Wanfujing shopping area, some nice Hutong, and some very good restaurants. A longish walk to Tiananmen Squar/Forbidden City. Convenient to metro station.

The breakfast is very good---about average for 5-star hotels in China, but this is a high standard. Try to get a package that includes breakfast.

Service is good on average but uneven. I have experienced truly outstanding 5 star service, but also indifferent staff that leaves coffee cup unfilled for long periods, and also hovering staff that made me uncomfortable rather than comfortable.

The traditional Chinese restaurant is really good -- perhaps the best dim sum I have had. The modern one, Jing, I was less impressed by.

The rooms are a little small and the view is nothing exciting. But rooms are nice and holding up well. Very nice 25m indoor pool. Very good airport transportation (typically BMW).
