“Very good stay at very good price!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Stayed 3 nights in this hotel in Beijing shortly after Chinese new year. The place was top notch and the food prices were not quite as bad as I expected. The bar prices were through the roof however!. Room was medium sized – certainly not large – but functional. Hotel is right next to the underground which is by far the easiest way to get around in the city! For £60 / night, I would certainly stay here again! Bar prices were just too steep steep e.g. Over £7 for a cup of tea!! Little Swiss deli in the main area was quite reasonable. We didn't bother with the hotel breakfast as this would have almost doubled the cost for out stay! There is a 7-Eleven over the road and a larger supermarket less than 5 minutes away so we just stocked up the fridge with stuff to eat. This is a proper quality hotel with well trained staff and in a very good location for getting around..

Stayed 2 nights. Booked a classic room and was told at check in I was upgraded to the next level. Arrived at night. It was about 30+ min plus can ride from the airport. About RMB75. Check in was smooth. The room and bathroom were clean but rather old as others have noted. The carpet definitely needs changing. There was a work desk and in room wired Internet connectivity. Internet was included with my upgrade. There was a decent in room safe for your laptop. 2 free bottles of water were provided daily. The tap in the bathroom included a notice that the tap water isn't for drinking. The heater was pretty warm right near it. Quite unbearable whenever you walk to the bathroom.

The work desk had sockets for local plugs and international power plugs. They were placed pretty close so you can't really plug in two adapters at the same time.

Breakfast spread was good. Both western and Chinese style breakfast options. While a friend told me getting a cab might be difficult in the area, I had no difficulties from the hotel itself.

Overall, service was good but the hardware could use updating.

The executive rooms have their own registration desk, on the upper floor level; when you are arriving from a 12 hour flight it does make a difference to be able to sit in a comfortable sofa while somebody is arranging the details of your check in. Also the executive floor has is own full breakfast lounge where can eat and look through the bay windows one of the most busy area of capital of China. The rooms, at least the one I got, have an office side with desk chair, wifi, and the normal sleeping area that is well equipped, I totally enjoyed this place because it is also close to the restaurants, American and Chinese.
I will go back to this hotel next time...

The hotel is just outside a metro station - perfect, if you opt for public transport. If you travel from the airport by train, it means only one change.
The service was very nice and helpful. Check in was smooth and quick. I was upgraded to a club room for free.
The room itself was spacious with an amazingly comfortable bed. The furniture is slightly run down though. The carpet was old and not inviting to walk barefoot on. Windows did not keep the cold and noise out. With -16C outside I kept the curtains closed and aircon on highest temperature to keep warm.
The bathroom was clean and good quality, though it had the shallowest bathtub I have ever seen. Forget a nice soak after a day of meetings or sightseeing.
Overall it was a good stay, but far from 5* standard I received in other hotels in the regions. To be fair, the price reflected it.

Thank you very much for taking the time to express your candid feedback. It is important for us as it allows us to improve in order to serve you better. As you commented, Swissotel Beijing enjoys its premier location and great accessibility to both airport and downtown. Meanwhile, we thank you for your kind words on the staff service that we ourselves are most proud of.

In the end I paid RMB 988 (appx $ 160) for one night stay. The breakfast was RMB 198 , I had to pay extra for Internet Cable Connection (RMB 18 / hr ( $ 2.90/ hr) . The furniture was in no way modern, the lobby was average . I would probably get a better deal in some other hotel

Lets get things straight, the hotel does it's job. Not more, not less.

Now, for a more detailed review: Checkin and checkout went smooth, they tried to DCC, but could eventually do it in Chinese Yuan (good, not all hotels in China can do that, saves you about 3% in exchange fees), there is free Wifi in the lobby area, and the public transport is right in front of the hotel.

Surroundings are also pretty good, supermarket across the road, several restaurants nearby which offer good food for fair prices, the "outgoing" area is about 10 minutes by foot away, and there is a subway station right in front of the hotel. The airport express is also just 1 subway stop from the hotel, so it's very convenient to get from/to the airport.

Now, the rooms aren't very modern, old-style bathroom, the windows are very badly isolated (you will notice this on a cold winter day! Or a hot summer day too, I've to assume) and the aircon/heating system isn't very modern either. But the bed is comfy enough, and I found plenty of sleep.

You get value for money here, it's not 5* but a 4* slightly aged. Would I come here again? Yes, probably, but not in winter or summer. For a quick Beijing trip in spring or autumn, this really is a good place, but the limited heating and cooling in the rooms will keep me away from booking it during the cold and hot season.

All in all, a good place in Bejing, just don't expect too much. You don't pay too much for it, either.

We stayed five nights and we found the hotel conveniently located. It was hard to reach form the airport, though.

Subway station right at the door which made things easy, eversince cab drivers are sometimes hard to deal with.

A former 90's five-star-hotel has a rather cheap feel now. Cleanliness of the rooms is not at it's best, furniture and decor are a weak point too.

All in all, makes a decent place to stay in Beijing within a medium/high budget range. Extras don't come cheap, such as breakfast and in room wi-fi.
