“Incredible value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

We stayed at the Novotel Peace in Beijing, which was fantastic value and came with a brilliant buffet breakfast.

Breakfast was served for a window of 4 hours, perfect for travelers. This included both a western and an Asian breakfast option. Both cooked and uncooked breakfasts were available, and I am in love with the omelet station. The dinner buffet was also amazing, and good value.

The facilities in the hotel were lovely. Including a gym, single-sex sauna, and pool, as well as gift shops that were surprisingly good value. The staff were excellent, and had great command of English. The concierge was super helpful and had terrific advice about sight seeing and eating in the city. Also handy were cards issued for giving to taxi drivers with where we wanted to go.

The room was clean and well maintained. Provided toiletries were a good quality and the room came with a range of tea. While the water in the taps was not drinkable, the room did come with bottled water. Also, western toilet. Seriously a wonderful thing.

The hotel was well situated for walking to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the night food market, and we even walked to the Silk Market. It was also nice and close to the subway system, which was cheap and very efficient.

The hotel had a range of restaurants attached, as well as a lovely piano bar in the lobby.

And lastly, the pillows. The bed was wonderful, and the range of pillows astounding.... and a glorious note saying that if these were not what I wanted, all I had to do was ask.

Room Tip: I was a fan of the second floor, that way I could use the marble stairs rather than the lift.

Location is what this hotel is all about, in the heart of it all! Good clean rooms, a little on the up side of price, meals were pricey and we chose to eat out, plenty to explore. Great view from the room, no western TV stations surprised us but we spent more time outside than inside. Buffet was very expensive, hotel reception was polite and all door staff were more than helpful. Beds were hard, seems to be a common thing for Chinese hotels, We did have issues at the train station with private taxi driver swooping on us trying to get us in their car it was almost scary, suggest you arrange a private pick up from train station or airport because the wait for taxi's at night can be long. Close to all the attractions including walking distance to Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, National Theatre and markets.

Room Tip: Take a room looking down the main road, wonderful at night!

This is a decent hotel at superb location as many have reviewed on here. Breakfast is of western and chinese cuisines. Our rooms and bathrooms were clean. We stayed on a non smoking floor and its pretty quiet. Staffs at front desk and restaurant were extremely polite and helpful. The housekeeping staffs were prompt with our requests as well. Walking distance to Wangfujing street, Dong Hua Men food street at night and amenities in the area. And best of all, within walking distance of the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, National Theatre and shopping.

The hotel's location is excellent. We were a couple minutes walk away from the Wangfujing street and from the subway. Although we stayed at the old wing of the hotel, the room was clean. However, I did not felt that the room was up to par with the standards of a 4-star hotel. But I guess this maybe a trade off between location and room. The breakfast was decent although it does lack in varieties.

This is a 4 star hotel so one should adjust one's expectations accordingly. The location is fantastic just as many others have commented in their review. Restaurants and convenience stall within walking distance, line 5 subway just 5 to 10 mins stroll away and wangfujing shopping area just a block away.

The room is clean and spacious with adequate amenities. My only gripe is that there isn't a bathtub in the room on club level. The staff is accommodating, some are impersonal while a handful are rather friendly. Club lounge serves breakfast till 10.30am - very limited selection - and happy hour is from 6pm to 8pm. What I do not appreciate is the watchful stares I got from some of the staff at the club lounge - felt like they are expecting me to do something wrong.

All in all, I enjoyed my stay at Novotel Peace.

We always enjoy staying in this hotel which is conveniently located in Wangfujing area. The breakfast is wonderful and the staff is very helpful. The lobby is a very relaxing place with live piano music at night.

We checked in early this morning into a standard room at this hotel. The standard rooms are in the old wing of the hotel, look like they have not been updated since the 1970s and you can not swing a cat in them. The bed is as hard as a rock and despite them advertising that they will change mattresses the best they could do was bring in a couple of quite thin foam tops to put on a bed that is like concrete. I spent last night sleeping with towels under my hips and still slept terribly despite travelling for more than 18 hours from Australia without sleep. We asked about upgrading to a superior room in the new part of the hotel to see if we could get a different bed but were told that all the beds in the hotel were the same. We got to see one of the superior rooms and the BEDS ARE NOT THE SAME so we asked to upgrade. And here's the best bit. Despite being an Accor member they slugged US $120 per night extra (we were already paying AUS $120 and stayed in a magnificent hotel in Shanghai for the same price). We were looked at the Accor site for the price of members and it is around $120 per night for the room outright. We are absolutely disgusted and will be taking this up with the management and the Accor Group as a whole. Once again a western hotel slugging westerners.. Our businesses main supplier is in Beijing so we will be coming here a lot and was looking for a decent hotel in Beijing close to the shopping area. This is not it!!!!!

Room Tip: Avoid standard rooms at all cost.
