“Duck De Chine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

Taxi driver took a few more turns before finding this place. Quite secluded. Good venue for peking duck and catch up with friends. One duck only serves 2 plates, so we ordered 2 birds for 4 of us. Awesome! Price may be a little steeper, though.

“The best place to hangout: 2 Times at Bar Veloce and 1 time at Duck de Chine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

Went to 1949 at Bar Veloce for late lunch with my love one. We had very good wine and talk here. Few days later, went there for second time, the manager recognised both of us and he offered us some panini and even extended happy hour time just for us! And then we went to Duck de Chine for dinner. Although we have to wait for half an hour, but it was worth waiting. The price was reasonable and their staffs were very attentive (compare to Quanjude. you are just paying for the brand!) Highly recommend this place for dining! Plus you can also visit their mini-gallery. However, if you dont want to wait, better make a reservation in advance. :)

“The most succulent Peking Duck ever!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

I love Peking Duck so of course the best place to eat it is Beijing. Don't even think about going to any other restaurant, this is by far the best. The ambience is very modern, chic but elegant - maybe a little dark for some people but I loved it. The menu is extensive but the Peking Duck is to die for!! You MUST try it, you'll be back for more. Prior to going to 1949 my 12 & 14 year old sons complained about eating Peking Duck but once they tried it they ate the whole duck by themselves and we had to order more and more!!! It's so succulent and mouth-watering delicious that you can easily eat an entire duck by yourself. The wine menu is also excellent, a little pricey but wine is expensive in China. Indulge yourself, it's well worth the visit to Beijing just to go to 1949 The Hidden City - on that note, it is quite hidden, not easy to find but just keep asking people and you'll eventually get there. It's s hidden gem!!!

“Very good Chinese fusion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

This is Chinese fusion so if that doesn't interest you, order the duck. This is what I did. Duck was excellent. Crispy lean and moist. Pancakes perfect. The rest of the menu is fusion... Service for china was very good.

“Hidden and worth finding for the serious duck lover”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Located down a dark, dimly lit alleyway, this multi-award winning, modern chinese restaurant is a must for anyone who seeks Beijing Duck.

We stumbled upon this restaurant by accident. Lured by the impressive, modern architecture and a glowing sign displaying"1949", we wondered into a car park packed with government, black european saloons and terracota warrior style statues.

Met by friendly and welcoming staff we were informed that 1949's signature dish was Beijing Duck. Compared to many, the duck ticked very box and served in a modern but classical style it is something to be applauded. We only ate the duck dish but will return to try other dishes in the near future.

I highly recommend 1949 to any traveller in search of the ultimate Beijing Duck experience
