Stayed here for two nights over the weekend. Paid the same dollar amount for the cost of a room at the Grand Hyatt or Ritz Carlton (using our company corp rate) but my sis has not been to BJ for almost a decade and we wanted the hutong experience. The location was walking distance to quite a few places we visited, ie. the lama temple and the fantastic king's joy restaurant across from the temple, it was also on the way to TRB the Temple Restaurant via the south drum tower street. The Yin room had a private area and the bedroom area was on a slightly higher level vs the sofa and closet and gave a sense of space that the other rooms did not.
The welcome box with a fully charged local cell phone was great and I loved their map with ideas of sights/restaurants to visit. My sister loved the home made banana bread and I just loved the amenities.
A couple of negatives. 1) We were dropped off at the intersection at the main road and the hutong. If we had luggage it would have been less convenient, though it is only 300 m to the hotel. 2) we got bitten by mossies even though Bj is so dry and mossies almost rare at this time of the year (actually not even sure it was mossies but they were flying in the room at night)
Overall I consider this to be a high end backpacker/flashpacker's type of hotel, but well worth visiting for the hutong experience and I would come back just to experience the area more.
