“Nice Hotel bad location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

I used to saty in this hotel during my company's annuel party. We got a very good price because of the low season.
The Hotel is 4* and quite clean. The only problem is the location, there is no subway nearby, you need to walk at least 15 minutes.
But anyway, if you don't mind getting the taxi, then this hotel is a good choice. It is not in the center of the city, so very quiet.

The service at the reception counter was friendly, polite and helpful.
The room was modern, clean, and comfortable.
The location was ok, but a bit far from Sanlitun...not much around this area.
An excellent hotel if you are on a business trip and need a quiet place to sleep.

We knew that the location is not the most ideal but since we are driving, we made the booking partially because of the complimentary parking. On reaching the hotel on 30 Mar, we were told that starting from 1 Apr parking fees will be imposed. This was not mentioned even when we called a day in advance to confirm our booking. Our effort to reach the duty manager to discuss this matter also failed. The person never turn up and he/she only get the front desk to inform us that free parking will be extended to us for only 2 days and nothing more can be discussed. We were unable to exit the car park even with the complimentary access card after 1 Apr as it cannot be acknowledged. We had to wait for someone who finally appeared after 10 over minutes at a far distance away and merely hand signal to the attendant to let us pass.

Housekeeping: there are always some items not replaced (towels, floor mat, tissue paper & toilet roll), on 1 day we have the toilet roll placed on the working desk?? Even with the "No disturb" sign, someone still buzz our doorbell during 1 evening and asked if we need housekeeping service (it's already done that day).

There are 2 bedrooms in the duplex but only the Master Bedroom came with wardrobe. The toilet in the other room is not working well and despite Mercure's attempt to fix it, it just couldn't be fixed.

We stayed in the Privilege wings but there is no Privilege benefits at all. Breakfast is served in the main block only. No explanation was given to us. With our earlier experience with the front desk, we decided to walk the way to the main block instead.

I have stayed in other hotels under Accor but overall, my 9 days stay in this hotel is only acceptable. Breakfast variety is good enough for us and I must say that the bed is comfortable enough especially after a long day. What is lacking and needs big improvement is the service/customer orientation standard .The parking cost is not high, what bothers me is the way that they handle this matter ( take it or leave it ) and the fact that Mercure do not honor our booking that came with complimentary parking.

The location of this hotel is probably more suited for a business trip rather than tourists as there didn’t seem to be many restaurants or shops in the close vicinity. However, the hotel itself had a nice lobby where we enjoyed a good glass of wine at the bar and we also enjoyed the dinners that we ate at the hotel restaurant. Our room was spacious with tea/coffee making facilities, a lap top safe, free internet in public places (wired in the room), fridge, two complimentary bottles of water per day and a few English language channels on TV. There was good heating and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of bench space and included a large shower cubicle and good toiletries. The breakfast had a good variety of both western and Asian dishes to choose from. The only minor negative thing that I can say is that the main hotel building (there is a newer annex) needs a little maintenance as there was some peeling wallpaper, cracks in the ceiling and a bit of mould in the bathroom. A pleasant stay overall though.

Room is spacious(Junior Suite). Breakfast is good. Staffs are nice and helpful. Although the location is far from the MTR, it is easy to get the taxi by the help of the concierge. Hotel surrounding is quiet, the bed is comfortable, we have a nice sleep during the stay.
