“Excellent business hotel in Beijing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2011

I have to agree with another poster- this is the best HI I've ever stayed in. The service is excellent everywhere, rooms are clean and comfortable, food is good though mostly Chinese as expected, and the internet is reasonably fast most of the time. I will definitely stay hear on my next trip to Beijing. Note that there really isn't anything of much interest within walking distance.

Room Tip: executive floor offers limited breakfast, afternoon tea, free drinks at happy hour and bottled water

We live in Canada and the Holiday Inn's here are considered a budget hotel. I've stayed in a lot of hotels in my time and have done a lot of business in Asia and in China. The Holiday Inn brand in China is equivalent to the Starwood Properties (ie. Westin and Sheraton) in terms of look, feel and conveniences. The Holiday Inn Beijing Deshengmen is as good as some of the Westin, Sheraton and Hyatt properties that I've stayed at.

The rooms were large and had 11 foot ceilings. When I checked in with my wife and toddler, we were given a room with 2 beds as opposed to a room with a king size bed. They switched us out the next day because they were booked up on the night of our arrival. Both rooms were nicely equipped with all the conveniences of home. One of the best features is they had plenty of electrical outlets that fit the N. American two prong plugs. We could each charge our iPhones, plus other appliances. The bathrooms were equipped with robes. When traveling in China, it is standard issue to provide shampoo, conditioner, soap, cream, tooth brush, comb, mending kit, shoe polish. All of this was provided. Hotel safe was also provided for free.

They charge by the minute for use of their internet up to a max of 60 RMB per day ($10 USD). You can only connect 1 device at a time. Tip - If you use a MacBook, you can share the WiFi signal by going to System Preferences/Sharing/Internet.

The breakfast buffet was excellent. A mixture of Asian and continental cuisine. I highly recommend it. We had the dinner buffet there one night because we were too tired to go out. It wasn't worth the price they charged (168 RMB/person) for what you get. You could get a much better meal elsewhere, but otherwise OK if you didn't feel like leaving the hotel.

Getting Around - be sure to ask the taxi driver for a card of their hotel so that you can give it to a taxi driver. On the back of the card, they list almost every tourist destination you can think of. Just point it out to the driver. A very handy tool.

Over the past 6 years I've travelled extensively in China on various business missions and have consequently stayed in many hotels around the country. Some hotels are awful, some middle of the road, and some are excellent which is how I rate Holiday Inn Deshengmen. The location is perfectly suited for both the business and holiday guest, the staff are efficient and very friendly, the rooms are spacious and well appointed and the breakfast service is nicely displayed & prepared. Other functions such as housekeeping, room service and concierge are all top class, and the executive lounge is the perfect place to relax after a hard day's business in the city.
During the morning rush hour, I would advise that you pre-book a taxi with the front desk, and in that way you'll arrive at your destination on time and hassle free. Another tip is to find the local park, just a few minutes walk from the hotel, and enjoy a morning stroll with the local folk. You'll see joggers, tai chi, kite fliers, dancers and even opera singers... What a great way to clear the mind and prepare for another day. Then head back to your room for a hot shower and nourishing breakfast!!
I have no hesitation in recommending the Holiday Inn Deshengmen to any traveller and can be sure that you'll enjoy their "service with a smile" just like I have. Enjoy!!

Visited this hotel after 11 days in China and was happy to find Pizza at the lunchrestaurant. (Was tired of noodles). Rooms were big, bed was fantastic, choice of pillow - hard/soft.

Would stay at this hotel next time as well!

This was the best hotel we stayed in during our 12 day trip to China. The hotel is very modern and the roons were spacious with lots of extras included - slippers, shaver, toothbrushes etc. etc.
The staff were excellent and very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

This was the best hotel during our 10 day trip through China. The hotel is clean and fairly new. The breakfast selection in hotel was really good ! The employees were ALL very helpful. Of the five hotels we stayed at during our trip, this was the only one where you could exchange currency via an automated teller machine. In our case, we put in USD and it automatically exchanged the USDs into Chinese yuan - you get a print out confirming the transaction. No people involved and you could basically exchange currency at your leisure. Some hotels we stayed at either a) did not have enough Chinese yuan to exchange or b) did not have the capability to exchange Chinese yuan. My advice to you is that if you need to exchange money with a "live" person, it is best to present "new" bills (so... get your bank to give you some "new" or "newer" bills before you leave for your trip to China). My $100 bill at one hotel location had a small "nick" in it and the person asked if I had another $100 bill that did not have a "nick". They indicated that the Bank does not accept "damaged" bills. Good thing I had extras... otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to complete the exchange.

This was the first hotel of our 12 day tour through China and certainly became the benchmark for the rest of the hotels we stayed in afterwards. Rooms were really spacious, clean and modern. My husband and I shared a room with a king size bed. All the little amenties they provide are perfect: soaps, toothbrushes, shaver, slippers, comb, etc.
Bathroom was a good size with great shower pressure. We also had a shower that included a regular hand held and rain shower head. Breakfast was very good and included in our plan. I really wished that the other hotels we stayed in had the same quality and variety. the pain aux raisin was my fave plus they have all the traditional Asian and western breakfast options. You can have noodle soup cooked to order. I really enjoyed the different soups and congee they offered. The two mornings we ate there they changed up the hot food items so it was really nice to find that variety. Unfortunately the day we checked out was way earlier than opening time in the cafe so we got really crappy cold breakfast boxes to go. If you need to change to RMB currency the hotel does it free of charge if you need to break large bills, make sure you do it before 7a otherwise you will have to wait till later in the evening. We wanted to visit the pool but it was under construction.
