While I've had an apartment in Beijing for the bulk of the past 10 years, this is not the case now, so I've become a frequent guest at the Yo Yo. I know it is difficult to book, so I was not surprised that it was full when I needed to avail of it this week. Instead, I tried out the Super 8 and Starway (both in Shuangjing), some horrible place with pink carpets near Gongti (if I can dig up the name, I'll write a review), and the Home Hostel in Dianmen (which, was surprisingly cool).

Simply put, the Yo Yo is a level above the aforementioned properties. For starters, its location is pretty solid (~100 meters away from Sanlitun Lu). Second, the rooms are consistently clean (not the case at the other places), and the beds are comfortable. Third, it has an elevator.

While it is not a 4-star hotel -- by any means -- based on quality alone (i.e. you still have to endure a shower that floods the bathroom floor), I give it 4 stars based on the "value for the money" metric. Now that I have a sense of what else y300 fetches in this town (either subpar or far away), I stand by this rating.

So I had booked my stay with YOYO for a night during a stop over.

Was super hard to find, but a hint is to look for a poster on wall to your right when you walk north on Sanlitun Rd.

Anyways, got there and they told me that I had booked the day after and that they were full!
Looking at the dates, they were right and I had made a mistake.
But without any hesitation they started double checking all their reservations.
None of them cancelled and they told me they would call around other hotels.
Within 5 minutes, they had gotten me a reservation at a hotel 5 minutes away at a discounted price which was cheaper than YOYO and got me a taxi.
Amazing service and a great help during what could have been a very stressful night due to my mistake.

I can see why people might complain about service as they do not smile and speak limited english. But in all means I felt taken care of and beyond.
Will stay here when I come back to beijing.

Yoyo had everything I needed - a bed, a bathroom, a couple of power outlets, and a roof. It was very cost-effective and very small, but the goal of this trip was to avoid camping in the hotel room as much as possible.

Electrical is a bit weird - the room couldn't hang with the draw from charging an iPad and an iPhone at the same time. Internet is also a little challenging if you're traveling light - there are hard lines in the rooms, but if you're on a wifi-only device you'll have to stick to the lobby.

Great location, all things considered - Costa Coffee to sate your caffeine dependency, Blue Restaurant and Middle 8th to alternate Chinese and Western cooking, and some of the best bars in town (Apothecary and Migas).

All told, if you're hunting for efficiency in Beijing this place is a good bet.

Great price uner Yuan 350, quite for sleeping - rock hard beds, basic one person accomodation.

Have stayed 3 times in 2 years for about 10 days each time. Mets my business expense budget.

Beds though you need to fold doona ontop to help with the bed's hardness.

Counter staff ALWAYS rude - but hey that's Beijing.

Yes will stay again this year - becasue of price and location.
