Everything about kellys courtyard is so impressive. I have been living and working in china for 4 months now and out of the many top end hotels I've stayed at this wonderful courtyard tops them all.
Clean, warm, snuggled, friendly and welcoming John goes above and beyond to make your stay here at kellys courtyard and in Beijing as comfortable as possible.
Breakfast was adequate, room was decorated in a French style, everything exceptionally clean and the location was superb close to a subway line. The hostel is a little hard to find at first (please see some pictures I out up).
Cannot wait to come back. Enjoy.

I agree with all the positives in the other reviews. We stayed there five nights in early October and then two nights at the end of the month when Hurricane Sandy delayed our flight home.
This is not an ordinary tourist hotel and it's definitely not in a touristy section. It's at the end of a hutong which is off another hutong which is off a third hutong! Read about hutongs and make sure you know what that means. And be prepared that cars can't go up to the front door -- you have to get your own luggage down the last two hutongs. It's like being in a genuine neighborhood in Beijing -- a different world from some of the big tourist hotels. To me that's a big plus!
The ambiance is wonderful -- soft jazz plays at night and you can get yourself a beer or a bottle of wine from the fridge (beer's less than a dollar and wine was the cheapest we saw in China) and sit in the comfortable lounge chairs or use Bob's computer.
Breakfast is limited but the yougurt was wonderful and I always had seconds. Coffee varied from day to day but we appreciated it more when we stayed other places and saw how expensive it was.
We stayed in room #4 the first time. It's the only one that doesn't directly face the courtyard so it has a little more feeling of privacy but we also enjoyed the room that did face right onto the courtyard.

Excellent! There is spacious sitting area with music and rooftop terrace with fresh air. Breakfast is simple but good enough. It serves apple & orange juice, milk, yogurt, toast, muffin/ cake, fresh fruit and coffee/ tea everyday. My room no. 5 is very comfortable though the restroom is a bit small and floor will be getting wet after shower. The environment is so silent and relaxing that I can have good sleep every night. I like the design and decoration of the hotel very much. It's a mixture of traditional history and modern art. The hotel manager, Bob is very helpful and friendly. You can also make friends and exchange travel ideas with your neigbours from other countries. The location is convenient as it's just 5 mins walk to the nearby train station. But upon arrival, it's better to take taxi from the airport as Beijing is just too big. If you want to experience an exceptional and enjoyable hotel stay in Beijing, I would highly recommend Kelly's Courtyard!

Kelly's Courtyard is such a beautiful hidden gem in the middle of the busy streets of Beijing. It is so peaceful, comfortable, and let's you really enjoy the street life of Beijing. Kelly's courtyard was the perfect place to have as a home base while traveling to the sites of Beijing. Bob is absolutely amazing, always on call, and full of knowledge and help with anything you may need.
