“Cosy and warm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

My family in law was visiting from France and we decided to visit the Great Wall in Beijing.

Michaels house was a very good choice. The personnel were very helpful with our kids (5yrs and 1 yrs) and even played with them.

Also the reception area was a good meeting point for the whole family several sofa sets and plants so the atmosphere was really good.

Michaels house organized our trip to the Great Wall and had a van pick us and drop us back at the hotel.

The only cons I would say was the van was quite old but apparently it was a replacement as the original one had a problem and the metro is about 15 min walk.

Overall very good impression.

Picked this Hotel for something different ,sure was ,no fancy foyer with robots ,exceptional service from the staff ,especially May who went the extra mile to help us pick up train tickets , she personally took us to Beijing North Railway station on her way home after work ,what a legend .Breakfast was excellent .Standard room was small but adequate for a couple of days ,the bigger room would be nicer for longer stays .It is close to a couple of excellent eating places with Peking Duck a speciality .We would recommend this Hotel just get your directions right i printed them off the computer .And any trips you do anywhere in China having it written in Chinese is a must .Michaels House staff are willing and able to do this .

Room Tip: All rooms face the courtyard pick larger room for stays of more than 2 days other rooms are adequate...

After flying 13 hours from seattle, getting a cab with a man who couldn't find Michaels House and who got more and more angry, he finally called them as we requested and one of the women from the hotel ran down to the end of the alley to flag him down! Wow, were we glad to see them and finally get to our beautiful little quiet room. Small but had everything we needed. The staff is so very friendly and helpful. The courtyard is beautiful and is where breakfast is served. The neighborhood is a normal neighborhood full of small local shops and places to eat. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the Jisthuan station which is the main subway loop and easily takes you to all the important sights or their connections. We Went to the train station to go out to the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace. All easily, well except for the crowds!Unavoidable no matter where you are!

I am very happy to stay in this hotel: staff is wonderful, hotel beautiful. Rooms are open on a little patio where we take breakfast. Continental breakfast is good. It is situated at 10-15 mn walk from Jisthuan station. The hotel is quiet and very well situated near a park.
If I came back another time in Beijing, I will book this hotel with hesitation.

Michael's house had a wonderful staff and it was a lovely hutong hotel, close to public transportation and centrally located (directly between Summer Palace and Forbidden City, for those spending just a few days in Beijing.

Room Tip: The smell of smoke is unavoidable in China, so there was a faint smell in the room of smoke. Otherwi...

This hotel is quite hidden, and may look a bit dodgy as you have to walk down a narrow alleyway/side street but definitely worth it. The hotel only has 7 rooms and all look very cosy and traditional Chinese. The staff all speak English and are extremely helpful and nice. They serve breakfast and kindly arranged a simple very early breakfast for my partner and I as our flight was very early in the morning. Would stay again.

About a 15 minute walk from Jishuitan subway, this is a comfortable courtyard inn tucked into a quiet side street in a neighborhood bustling with foot traffic, street food from carts to produce markets to sidewalk restaurants, 24 hour convenience stores, etc. Don't miss the greenway park (folk dance groups are sometimes gathered in the pavilions in the evening) or the egg crepe cart. Egg crepes are important. About 9pm you should find them on the corner of Xinjiekou Outer St. And Wenhuiyuan Rd., 5min from Michael's, on your way to the metro. Earlier in the evening they'll be a few steps farther north by the pedestrian overpass. Point to the griddle and they will do the rest. You're welcome.

Michael's House staff are friendly and helpful, and can give you anything from directions and general advice to reservations for day trips or shows. Buffet breakfast in the courtyard is a great start to every morning. Mostly western fare with local pastry items to keep it interesting. Our room was extremely comfortable, equipped with fridge, hair dryer, super fast electric kettle, safe, wireless, every convenience we could think of.
