“Excellent, wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2014

I was initially concerned about reviews that the staff spoke little English but we never encountered that at all. Checkin, concierge, breakfast, all staff were very friendly and had spoke English very well. The room was big and bed was very comfortable. Breakfast had a wide variety including continental options, European hot buffet including an Omelette chef, as well as Asian options including a Noddle chef. Lots of variety, well stocked and hot, even late in the morning and was for all 3 days we stayed.
Pool was a nice relief from the heat and the health club staff were very friendly.
Concierge were always available to write down in Chinese where we were going to give to the taxi driver and help with directions and recommendations.
The lobby was amazing and yes, obviously not authentic as it's a new hotel but it still looks wonderful. The door man smiled and called us both 'Princess' coming and going after my sister and I did Disney twirls down the opulent staircase on the first day.
The Italian receptionist/concierge (can't remember name sorry) was beyond wonderful. She is a true asset to the hotel.

Worth the price especially after a long hot humid day out and about, in a good area, easy to walk to and from, fantastic staff.

The Legendale Hotel is as visually striking from the outside as it is inside. Everything about the décor and structure of this place screams opulence. More importantly, the hotel is located just next to a major subway and is only a short walk away from Wangfujing which is critical when you consider travel times in this mammoth city.

Check in was not the start we wanted at the Legendale with 3 different staff being required to clarify what was included in our package (which stated that we had booked Noble club level access). After some 30 mins ‘discussing’ what was in fact included we finally ended up with the room category that we had booked and usage of the club lounge for breakfast only. The room itself was stunning, with all the dark furniture, gold fittings and ceiling decorations really transporting you to another time (and another place given the outside conditions of Beijing). I loved the deep soaking bathtub that had a glass petition that let me look into the room while I unwound after a long days walking. Breakfast in the Noble club (which we fought so hard to ensure was included as stated in our package) was underwhelming and the relative quite that can be found in the top floor dining area was trumped by the superior selection of food available at the hotel's main breakfast dining area which we also used. The door staff were particularly nice offering information about distances, hailing taxis and generally greeting us with a smile as the opened the lobby doors each time we arrived.

The Hotel’s indoor pool was also nice for a quick dip on one hot day but again remember that without a swimming cap, guests will not be allowed in!

All in all, the poor check-in experience was not enough to take the shine off this unique hotel experience.

I was recommended by a colleague to stay at the Legendale hotel and I could not be happier with our choice. We loved every minute of our stay!

The room
The room and bathroom (incl both shower and bathtub) was big and with beautiful golden decor! King bed with 1000+ thread count sheets. We almost didn't want to leave the room since it was so beautiful and relaxing.

Service
Super friendly and helpful staff! Every time we had to get a taxi, the staff wrote down the Chinese name so we had no problem getting around. Very service minded and made us feel like home. Requested dry cleaning for the next day but received it back within half a day. The staff is very knowledgable and friendly, if there is anything you need, just ask away. We did and got lots of tips we otherwise would have missed.

Breakfast
Mix between western and local specialities. Fresh fruit, egg station with eggs at your choice (omelet etc, you name it). Nuddle station and dumplings if you want to try something new! You won't leave hungry.

Tours
We decided to use "Grey Tours" which has a representative at the hotel, easy to book. We took the tour to Great Wall (Badaling). We we're initially a little bit skeptical but due to fully booked train we decided to go with the "safe card." We were pleasantly surprised and the tour guide Leo (ask if he is leading it if you go) made it worth every peny! The fact that he told us to go to the left (everyone goes to the right for some reason because it seems less steep) gave us an unforgettable experience, we almost had the Wall to ourselves!

Gym and Pool
Gym had many workout stations and weights- plenty of space. We took a swim in the pool right after. (Looks as beautiful as in the pictures and a couple of people did laps in it).

Location
Very good location since it was walking distance to many good restaurants and malls. Close to the metro and only a few stops away from the Forbidden City (maybe 15min walk) and Pearl market, and 5min walk distance to the old Beijing (Hutong) which is worth a visit. 30mim taxi drive to Summer Palace (cab ride $10), and 15min taxi to Santulin which I also recommend visiting.

Overall, I could not have chosen a better hotel for my first time visit to Beijing.

This hotel is advertised as a 5 star hotel. The hotel is badly in need of refurbishment.
The food at breakfast and evening buffet were cold and had a very little choice of European foods. I know it is in Beijing but unless you like to eat fish soup for breakfast you may go hungry. Quite often the foods and drinks on offer ran out and it would take them 45 minutes to replenish the them. Definitely not 5 Star standard.
The WiFi in the hotel was constantly not working or really, really slow. Not very good for the business traveller.
We hired a tour guide and he informed us that the hotel used to be visited by Government officials and World Leaders. Because the hotel had lost this custom it had to allow European tour groups in to try and keep the hotel busy.

Fabulous hotel, the building looks older than it is, it's only 5 years old and very stylish.
We had a junior suite and what a beautiful two roomed suite this was, done in French opulent styling and very luxurious. We had the club facility and this is real 6 Star service an almost private lounge fabulously decorated with very well trained and helpful hostesses and your own chef who will cook you eggs bacon or noodles, the buffet is very good and Nespresso coffee. Also in the club drinks are available in the evening along with some very nice Tapas, all in all a very good club facility and the hostesses Rebeca, Alice and Tiffany are worth mentioning for their excellent service.
Location, this is very good close to the famous night food market in Wang Fujing and you can the pedestrianised shopping areas. We walked to Tiananmen Square but you need to be fit to do this but worth it..
Great hotel absolute opulence.

Room Tip: Have a suite with club, it's worth the extra.

I was so looking forward to my stay in Beijing and this Hotel having been completely spoilt in India. The Hotel is very pretty and is in a good position in Beijing. However from the moment I stepped in side the hotel until I left, the staff were completely disinterested and disengaged with the English speaking customers. The room was slightly dirty with light switches and skirting boards marked. The coffee and other facilities were not replaced and after four hours my room was not cleaned. As a solo guest at breakfast time I was always sent to another room away from the other guests as it had a table for two. Not a great feeling. The hotel has a very dull feeling to it. I could not wait to leave!!!

Built for the Olympics, this Belle Epoque style hotel is a genuine 5 Star. Awesome lobby and attentive staff (though English can be a problem at times). When we visited it was strangely empty which did not contribute to the atmosphere!
Buffet style food was very good indeed and there was a choice of restaurants on the premises. The Molly Malone pub was ok, high prices.
