“Great location, excellent hotel in Beijing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

The Marriott City Wall is very well located, close to downtown. Excellent rooms, absolutely clean and spacious, really comfortable bed, two TVs, and can easily accommodate 2-4 people. The lounge serves a good breakfast, so if possible, try to skip breakfast in the restaurant (too crowded). The bar serves a nice salad, as well as sandwiches and other appetizers. There's a happy hour at 8 pm, when you can enjoy the second drink for free. Good choice in Beijing.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

We stayed in this Marriott for four nights, a family of four. We had two children, ages 5 and 7. We reserved the twin room, and they upgraded us to two king beds in the room. This was perfect for us.

The rooms are a bit dark, and the beds are a bit hard (hard mattresses seem to be the standard in Asia, I haven't had many comfortable beds in Asia). The rooms are well equipped, with a mini bar fridge, bath robes, slippers, etc. Sheets and towels are of nice quality.

The concierge was great and very helpful. The tour desk was very helpful, and without her I wouldn't have had my two sets of train tickets. We went to the train station ourselves. We've traveled the world, and bought train tickets all over, but this was an indecipherable task in Beijing. My two daughters even speak Mandarin. We couldn't do it. The lady at the tour desk was super helpful. She arranged tickets for us, got our reduced rates for the kids, and arranged us to be in a sleeper car from Xian to Shanghai, all four of us in one cabin. She also arranged tours for us, although I wouldn't recommend the gray line tours. They wasted a lot of our time with "educational" shopping experiences, and rushed us through the sights we wanted to see. For example, we spent an equal amount of time in the forbidden city as the jade shop, and the silk shop and the tea shop and the pearl shop.

My only complaint with the hotel, really, is the restaurant. If the restaurant were better I would give them five stars. We ate breakfast four times and dinner twice in the restaurant. At breakfast, they would bring us our bill before we had even filled our plates. One day I got yogurt for one of my kids, and they shoved the bill in front of me and hovered over me to sign it before I had even had a coffee or a single thing on my plate. I had not even sat down yet. The offerings on the buffet were good, and there was plenty to satisfy the entire family. For dinner, the food was terrible, and the restaurant wasn't fully cleaned from breakfast. There was bacon and dragonfruit under our table when we sat down, which we recognized from breakfast. I had lamb one night, which was supposed to come with truffle potatoes. Instead, it was lamb served over cut up French fries. My husband ordered local dishes, and he said they were blah. The kids liked their pasta and hot dogs, so at least they were satisfied. The one thing worth having was the mushroom soup. I ordered it both times. It was really creamy and buttery, super rich and absolutely delicious.

So overall, it is a good location, clean rooms, decent breakfast, so so dinner, and great service.

This 5 star hotel offers an osasis in the pollution ridden city of Beijing. Comfortable spacious rooms with satellite TV, good A/C and a decent western style restaurant (though their version of a grilled ham and cheese sandwich is a slab of cold ham, chunk of cheddar on 3 barely toasted pieces of bread...euch!). Good central location, but regardless, driving around Beijing takes extreme patience as their roadways are just a giant parking lot...at all hours.

Great Service, the room spacious and comfortable. Walking distance to subway station (please get bilingual map from concierge), 3 station stop to Tiananmen Square and 2 station stop to Wang Fu Jin station (famous with night market). WiFi in the room was chargeable.
highly recommended to stay here.

This hotel is perfectly located in my opinion. Very nice accommodations, good service, highly recommended. We only ate at the concierge lounge, very nice breakfast and good for a light dinner. If I had to be in Beijing again I would definitely stay here.
